Does anybody know where can i purchase an electric bicycle here? i've seen quite a number of them on the streets but so far none of the user understand me.

I believe you have found many places in Singapore you buy electric bicycles. But the the important is to look into LTA (Land Transport Association) for their rules of usauge on our main roads and what to observe. The capacity, speed limit and so on. Have a nice day travelling. Lawrence

You need to ensure that the electrical bikes, are made to the standards required by Singapore, many some do not meet the safety standards. There has been something on the news about it last week!

Key word is "BICYCLE". " a vehicle with a tubular metal frame mounted on two spoked wheels, one behind the other. The rider sits on a saddle, propels the vehicle by means of pedals that drive the rear wheel through a chain, and steers with handlebars on the front wheel.

A motorised bicycle defeats the purpose. It should then be called a "MOTORBIKE"

Hmmm... what's in a word? Bi-cycle has it's origin in the greek... kúklos - circle... and from that the Latin cyclus... from which we get the modern cyclic... or repeating... such as the rotation of the wheel... and with 'bi' we've got two repeatingly rotating wheels. So, any two wheeled vehicle is technically a bicycle.

Now, any guy who is mechanically inclined will tell you that an electric bike is a motorbike because it is powered by a 'motor'... a device that provides motive mechanical energy.

Motors can be electric... so the terms motorbike and electric bike could be interchangeable at some level... and the differentiator that it is electric and not petrol powered is useful.

BTW, there are some very large and powerful electric motorbikes being made... some called electric motorcycles, some called powercycles, and... uh... electric scooter... yet another term to blur the distinction.

FWIW, if your electric motorbike is 200 watts or less you don't need to have it licensed and it obeys the bicycle laws, more and it follows the motorcycle laws.

Nowadays they are catching non approved bikes very strictly, if you want to get, just get an approved bike !

Would have been useful when I was a boy considering the incline of a number of hills, not too mention some of the distance myself and others covered which could be over-much at times. (I am not certain but I think they are classed as mopeds in Britain).
