Singapore Expats

Wasn't sure where to post this question... are Eco-Friendly products, like household cleaning products, laundry detergent etc...etc.. easily available in Singapore? And if they are where will I be able to find them... brands like Ecover.... Thanks! (relocating next week...)

there are some but not a lot. singapore are not too hot on eco stuff. you will know what i mean when you go shopping!

You can actually make alot of your own, just google it, its quite simple.

My friend just told me of an organic store on Tomlinson I think, the last time we lived here it was tiny, she says now its quite big and has many brands but I suspect its going to be $$$, probably cheaper for me to DIY or look out for the local greenies that make the enzyme cleaners. I heard there are some.

Yes, you can find them. I've seen 7th Generation cleaning supplies at cold storage, Taste original, Brown rice paradise, and other shops. I agree with the other poster in that you can make your own earth friendly products. Vinegar, water, washing powder, baking soda .... some combinations of those ingredients make good cleaning. It does suck that Singapore hasnt picked up on the whole "green" living thing yet. I have barely seen any recycling so far. I know Malaysia is changing their recycling program in the next couple of years from %5 to %30, and China "seems" to have a strong green program.
So its only a matter of time bfore it sweeps in Singapore.
This would be a great time to start some "Green" business's there!

They've been started and folded numerous times. Unfortunately "pragmatism" takes precedence here (the local definition not the international definition - they have their own dictionaries here)

Just out of curiosity how many people on this forum will get a worm farm?

Rotting food from a dumpsite creates loads of bad methane gasses. A worm farm is great (free fertiliser for life) and there are many apartment friendly ones (tho expensive) or DIY ones (really cheap).

I have 3 of my own... they don't smell, they efficiently dispose of all green stuff (no meat tho) and tissues that you blow into...

I've recently seen Ecover in Cold Storage supermarket. It was 3-4 times the price of other cleaning products but worth buying sometimes I guess to make a statement.

You can also buy eco-friendly health products (no parabens, aluminium etc) in certain specialised pharmacies.
