Singapore Expats

Hi all,

Hearing from some local, relatives and friends, there has been a lot of denied entries by MoM due to ecnomic downturn even with In-Principal pass approved.

Is this happening as we speak? Does it applies to all levels of employment pass and industries?

I am relocating to Singapore from Oz, haven't have any new from my employer regarding the employment pass.

Any local advice would be great. Thanks.

I am also new to Singapore. I just arrived last sunday and came here with no problem. I was issued the usual tourist visa upon arrival and just yesterday, i got my EP from the MoM.

Pretty fast...NO! Before coming here, i already forwarded my application form to my organisation and then they submitted it to MoM last Feb 27th. I guess my organisation applied online.

The MoM did not as well require me to undergo medical examination and I just signed a waver that i havent been tested positive to HIV and has no TB. This is bit surprising because MoM has been very strict regarding medical exams. Bit lucky i guess.

MoM yesterday were very busy and many people got a pass. I guess, it all boils down to your application and to your company. As long as you meet the MoM criteria specific to the employment pass or working permit you are applying for, there shouldnt be a problem.

I also just arrived from Oz and received my S pass only just 2 weeks ago. It was initially rejected which apparently is quite common as the MoM just quickly skims the criteria or it gets automatically vetted by a filter.

But my boss went down to appeal it and it then got approved. From what I've read, this is very very common. So don't be disheartened if your EP or S pass is initially rejected. All it takes is for your employer to head down in person and speak to someone at MoM about looking at it intead of the application just being vetted by a computer or whatever, and chances are you may be fine.

That being said, I just had my E-Appointment for my PR today so now comes the waiting game!!! Wish me luck!

I guess it also depends on your line of work. I was worried as I'm not in a line which is specialised or anything like that, and that I also do not posess a degree, but I do have a Singaporean wife.

Mezman, you are applying for PR under the Family Ties and not the Professional/Skilled Technical Scheme. Bit different to be sure.

Also, the medical often depends on where you are coming from. Almost all applying for EP's and coming from another Asia Country will require a Medical unless you have had a working visa here before. Usually, coming from a western country will not require the medical but just a statement from individual.

Actually I applied under the professional scheme as as I mentioned in another post, the ICA lady said that whether until the spousal scheme or otherwise, they would both be judged on the same criteria. Again, something I have my doubts about.

During my E-Appointment I asked the lady whom was handling my application if I should have gone with the Spousal application instead as opposed to the one for professional/technical personnel. She said not to worry about it as if Immigration decides that the other application is more suitable, they'll contact me as ask me to fill out and submit that form instead to replace this one.

This was all a surprise to me because it was a response I certainly didn't expect, but whether it reflects the way things truly work or if she was simply pulling any old response out of her ass, I guess time will tell!

I was required to do a medical for my S Pass and I'm from Oz.
