Expats, are you treated by locals acceptably in Singapore?

I don't feel that the locals discriminate against me. I guess they save that for immigrant maids and tiger prawn consumers.

Yes, I do feel some discrimination going on. It's not something that strikes you, but you can feel it now and then. (i.e. when a price of renting an apartment goes 50% up upon the agent recognizing you are an expat). If you are Caucasian, the price rising and expecting that you have some uber-fat salary is the most atrocious one.

I am living in an area at the edge of town in the west where are hardly any expats except me. I am treated normally by the locals when I do my shoppings or eat at the hawker. The people are absolutely open and talk to me on the street from time to time. I cannot recall any bad experiences. Regarding the rent "rip-offs": I am still not sure about that. The rents can go up and down extremely during a short time. Maybe this fact sometimes creates the impression.

If you are a caucasian, try shopping by yourself in Tekka or any other wet market and then stop and compare prices after leaving with some of the other local shoppers who bought the same things. (Or for that matter, any store that does not display prices). Caveat Emptor.
