Hello

I am an extreme technophobe and have a 2003 Dell Dimension 8300 PC - i would like to upgrade its RAM. I have tried looking at Dell website but it is a nightmare to navigate - you cannot actually speak to someone, and plus they do not seem to want to sell parts for such an 'old' computer.

WOuld any one be able to suggest a good computer technician who may be able tohelp out - both with getting the RAM and also installing (or at least talking me through how to do it?)

Your computer requires PC2700/3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Must be installed in matching pairs. Supports Dual Channel DDR.

Your best bet is to google 'Dell Dimension 8300 '. You will get lots of references to companies selling memory.

goto www.crucial.com and look it up. your dell will need 184-pin DIMM DDR PC2700. you need to install a matching pairs, eg you need 2x stick of the matching memory. arm with that info, you can shop around in computer stores like sim lim. you can also checkout the prices to get a rough guide at www.hardwarezone.com.sg (click on priceguides).

you will also need to know how many memory slots are free on your PC. open up the case and check. for instructions on checking/installing the memory, use google or youtube which will show you how. it is pretty easy.

You'll be happier getting it from the internet if you're not absolutely sure what to buy. Sim lim is full of shops that will sell you most anything at twice the price with no refund or exchange. Bahaya!

I've never had any problem from Kingston over the past 10 or so years. They have a configurator so you can ensure you're getting the right stuff.

I know how to do it. I've managed to walk out of SLS with the right parts at the right price. My point is the OP is a self declared techno phobe and would be easy bait for the slicks. Bahaya, dilerang masuk lah! lol!
