Yup! and when you accompany her to the wet market, do NOT follow her around. Either she will be assumed to be the maid to an Ang Moh and the stallkeeper will charge her double or will know she's married to an Ang Moh and will charge her double (at least!). Always wait until price is quoted before poking your head from around the corner!

Sim Lim hate it when I use this exact method, especially when I've already benn in to the shop on my own first to source exactly what I want and get the Ang Moh price, then send in Mrs S on her own to get the proper price, then she calls me and I return to pay. You should see the looks on the sales guy's face

I actually benefit, most of the time, from paying Ang mo tax. After realizing the taxation I usually feel understandably cheated and look to find places that don't charge it. Nowadays the guys from Singpost, Fedex and UPS know my face and name because I buy so much from Amazon.com, Target.com and Ebay.com Granted, things are going to be more expensive here in general, it's the dual prices that send me to the internet.

For one, I'm happy the hawker centers sometime charge higher price for A.M.. maybe saved me from food poisoning.

Not meant as an indictment against Singapore, just commenting on dual pricing as a business practice. It's short sighted, opportunistic, and creates a stigma that is off putting to potential customers.

Yeah, it's a real Mastercard moment for sure! Priceless!
