I need to find somewhere to buy a wire mesh to fix to our front gate so my dogs can't escape. In Australia I'd just pop along to Bunnings, but no luck on that here. Does anyone have any ideas where I'd go for something like this?

i encountered the same problem with diy projects here...

but i also learned that the neighborhood general merchandise store is a good bet for small diy projects. these all-in-one stores are usually in the public/flea markets which are usually next to the community club. you just need to get directions from locals...

You can also try the three listed in my links page in my signature almost all the way down the centre column under the heading "D.I.Y. / Hardware Stores" Two have URL the other is the Handyman Centre in Shaw Centre but while he may not have it in stock he can either get it for you or tell you where to get it. I even managed to get a pair of long-handled proper fencing pliers from him some 20 years ago. He has virtually anything needed for D.I.Y. or can get it.

We used plastic mesh that is avai at almost all hardware stores. I was looking for chicken mesh (to build a compost area but have not found that yet).

There is a shop in sixth-avenue buka timah next to the post office it is a bit of a rabbit warren inside ,a lot bigger than it looks, but it has a lot of stuff you can not find else where nuts bolts different sizes.Worth a look very helpful owner.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll give it a go and hope I can find what I'm looking for. Two very escape prone Jack Russells and a front gate with big gaps just don't go together!!

I found chicken wire at the hardware store above cold storage in Holland V, its soft enough to get around edges and bigger gate gaps.

Try Homely Hardware Supercentre at Ubi Crescent.

They are similar to Bunnings in local context.
