with all the hype about swine flu, what's your view on this outbreak? Just came back from paragon just now taking my kid to the doctor. We had to be registered and temperature taken...

definitely making me feel "fearful" with all these extra precaution taken...

no hype. prevention is better than cure.

I think this is overworrying....

In my work I have to take temperature 3 times per day!

Do you know how many people dies from swine flu? How many about usual flu? Oh, surprising.... What about Malaria? Oh, yes, these people is dying in Africa, not USA, nothing to care about.....

There are lot of diseases around much more serious than this one, and these actions were never taken. This looks like a normal flu. If you don't have a good health condition and a good medical care, a normal flu can also be a huge problem.

Cough at a crowded coffee shop and you'll get a table instantly!

Your are assimilating nicely. The "It won't happen to me syndrome" I'd rather be safe than sorry personally. I'm too young to gamble.

Swine flu is all a cover up to divert attention away from the global economic meltdown...i guess it's achieved it's objective for a week.

well from what i heard through my local friends, they are now fearful to travel and were discouraging me to travel too when i mentioned interest to go for cruise!

not sure whether it's coincidental, but i'm also noticing less kids playing in the playground below the condo i'm staying in now...

I'd expect nothing less from the locals...they'd believe aliens were invading Singapore tomorrow if a pixie told them

@wnyw: i can't see a difference on the number of kids playing around in my condo. Actually i never saw so many people outside last friday during labor day. The pool was packed.

BTW they now take people temperature before entering in the museum of modern art. They even tag people with color code stickers! Is it so people can stay away from you if you're orange?

My kids school are doing something similar. Yesterday my kid came back with this pack of stickers with instructions stating that we have to put a sticker on their shirt in the morning displaying their temp reading. They also included instructions on how to take a temp reading using an electric thermo. The one thing they forgot in the pack though was the electric thermo itself, so I had to take a guess with my hand this morning will be the same tomorrow and the day after..hehehehe !

Here is what the Centers for Diease Control in Atlanta, GA are saying. There is a lot less hype in the U.S. Things seem to be settling down to a gentle roar now.

The experts are thinking this will peter out by July. The 2nd wave in Oct. - march 2010 is when H1N1 could do the most damage. I'd be more concerned about making sure you get a flu shoot for the next flu season. They are working on a new formula now.

interesting, you pay the big price for a free range chicken, but don't want to spend few buck on an electric thermo for your kids? come on...

I've read that sales of electric therm in Singapore increased by 2000% since the H1N1 stuff. It looks like some people are concerned.

did I say that i didn't want to spend the money on an electric thermo? No.

for the record, they're like gold dust here in singapore at the moment, as you mention. However, I still feel this whole situation is been blown out of proportion

I went over to the food court downstairs of Sintel building, Orchard.

Had to go register and get temperture reading and all sorts before you are even allowed in the building.

That's what I've been hearing as well. People are now fearing the 2nd wave as supposedly will be worse than current outbreak... As wat my cousins were saying, the "kiasu" mentality in SG is causing so much unnecessary "stress" level.

Hmm i wonder whether there'll be the flu jab in SG. But then again, I don't know when we should start getting ourselves vaccinated. Unlike when we were back home we'll vaccine ourselves in early autumn...
