I checked with some of the major retails of electirical home appliances, including Gain City, Best, Harvey Norman and Kitchen Culture, but none of them sells the item... O, it is so difficult to get a dish sterilizer in Singapore... sigh...

I suppose the obvious question might be: I've been washing my dishes with soap and water and putting them in the drainer for the last 50 odd years and never once have I had an issue of catching something off the plates that I, my wife, my child, my grandchild, my maid have washed. So why would I want a dish sterilizer?

Now, if you are talking a commercial operation that is a different story entirely... in some places... but evidently not Singapore... as you are most likely to find dishes being washed in 5 gallon buckets on the floor.

What -is- a dish sterilizer? Does it fit on a counter or is it built in?

I am intrigued.

You may not, but people who have a compromised immune system definitely might...

bbgrace, if you really need one, I think you may have to import one.

There are many sizes, both-fit in and build-in. Some has only one layer of rack, then the size is slightly bigger than a microwave. Some has two layers of racks.

I urgently need one. Singapore weather is humid. My wooden chopsticks and cutting board get molded easily. And there are cockroach in my house. So I can use the dryer cum sterilizer to keep all my utensils.

I went for an haircut and read a magazine. There was an advertisement on the sterilizers. But too bad I didn't manage to copy down the supplier information... I searched on google and there is limited information; someone said he is using the one from Mayer. But I have no idea where could I find this brand.

Aaaahhh. I don't believe you'll ever win the battle against mold, and a sterilizer is not really a cost effective or 'green' solution, is it?

Better to toss the wood in favor of mold resistant plastics, silicon and bamboo. Cheaper too.

Plastic cutting boards are actually wonderful bacteria breeding grounds. If you cut plastic, the little crack stays open forever, and bacteria throw a party inside. If you cut wood, on the other hand, it will naturally swell up and seal the gap.

I tend to get mold on the underside of wooden boards though, since it's hard to dry them thoroughly...

Yes, but we're talking about mold, not bacteria.

Mold spores grow in precisely the same cracks as bacteria does, and you'll get mildew on plastic cutting boards as well.

wow...this baby looks cool.

If I had a restaurant, that would be something to be considered but for my private home I just buy Dettol.

Besides, I wouldn't want to pay the electricity bill for that.
