Singapore Expats

I have a checking account with HSBC back in U.S. but not here in Singapore. Since I need to pay bills monthly, can I deposit Singapore currency into my U.S. account in a local HSBC bank here? Do I need to open another account here?

Misssy81 = if you are HSBC Premier, yes, free opf charge. Otherwise, I *THINK* you can link your accounts if youopen an account here. Try the HSBC Contact Centre here in SIN - if you try your home country you'll find they will say yes, then when you get here, then the local branch will say no. Such is HSBC!

You will need to open another account here... HSBC or otherwise. You will then need to wire transfer funds from Singapore to the US... and you will get screwed on the exchange rate and fees.

I've found no cheap way to do this... except to to it as seldom as possible and in large enough amounts to keep the usurious fees as a reasonably small percentage of all funds transferred.

reading your post again, do you mean taking singapore dollar in cash to a bank and deposit it to your US HSBC?

We have HSBC Premier and we are in the same position (we have a US HSBC account.) Screwed is putting it politely. I would look for another option.

thank you all for your replies .. i think the easiest way is for me to open a local acct and wire the money back to my acct.. i'll probably only be doing the wiring once a month..
