Singapore Expats

I'm looking for sailing lessons in a nice club that is not over priced. I will be living in the centre of Singapore without a car so I'm looking for a club that will be easy to get to. Any recommendations would be appreciated?

I'm going to take sailing lesson with PA water venture on June. Take a look at water venture website, just google ( I think posting an outside URL in this forum is not allowed ).

Will go to East Coast water venture. The cost about 270.

We have just finished looking into Sailing clubs in Singapore as we have just moved here and are keen to get involved. The cheapest one is Changi sailing club (and according to a guy we spoke to there who visited all the clubs, it is the friendliest). They have a really good beginners sailing course for $300. We did our first sailing course in Melbourne and it cost a lot more than that and wasn't as comprehensive as this one appears to be. It probably isn't the easiest one to get too... we tried public transport to get there on the weekend and it took almost 2 hours but we got a cab back to the Orchard area and it took 15 mins and only cost about $15 or something so that is a much better option.

I tried Changi but they were booked up so I'm looking into a course with Republic of Singapore Yacht Club. If anybody has any feed on this club, it would be much appreciated.

may i know 300 for how long? can u share more details?

Do they have in singapore moonlight or social racing or boats you can jump aboard for free and help out. In Aus you can go down register with any club for free and they assign you to a boat - learn on the job as you say plus its a great way of getting to know people. I always take some beer, wine and nibbles and before long the captain and you will be buddies. I would be interested if there was something similar here.

Unfortuantely this isn't the case in SG. Changi seems to be the friendliest and they do have weekly hobie racing. The yacht racing scene here is much less regular and I don't know how they go about getting crew. You have to know someone who owns a boat!

I'm taking the course at Changi in August I really hope they're friendly! But it looks really popular, i had to book in march to get a spot in august, all other were full.

But i received a call from them this morning telling they have a free spot in June (starting 13th) and asking me if i wanted to take it.
Hopefully the 13th I'll be in Bali, so I'm still scheduled for August.

Is anyone here looking for crew to race? I'm 29yo aussie male, been here 2 months and looking to get back into some hobbies/sports.

I've never done a sailing course, but i've raced everything from Dinghies, to skiffs to cats and even yachts since i was a kid (benefits of having a dad that loves sailing and an uncle who's a shipwright). I'm happy to crew regularly on a cat/dinghie if someones looking.

I was just wondering if you have started the course and if so how do you rate it? I'm also interested in doing a course, just trying to find a good club...
