Hi there,
I'm a British expat here in Singapore, married here, and 10 years later divorced here!..
Does anyone know of a divorce support group here, predominantly for expats? Women (or men) who have been through the same, and are continuing life here in Singapore?
It's a tough trip, thought it would be nice to meet other people in the same situation....

I am not aware of such a group... but then I am not looking. However, you might try SACAC as they provide counseling services and support groups and may know something

I'm in the same boat and having to work around Singapore divorce laws is driving me crazy especially since the ex is not agreeing to an outright divorce and insists on the 3 year separation!!
PM me if you want ot meet up to talk about things!

Hi- I am also going through a divorce in Singapore...we have been separated for a year and my wife has now started seeing someone else. I have not looked into the nitty gritty of the legal process but now feel I have to- for my own sanity....we have 2 children...they've held up well for this first year...but it looks like the gloves are coming off for me and my wife...so I am a bit apprehensive...
I am an American , my wife Singaporean..I don't feel like the system is favourable to men..but we have agreed on joint-custody...financial wise though my wife makes 5 times more than me...and it's tough to feel like I will be able to "move on" as she has...
would love to chat with any similar cases:-}
Am in the same boat

Hi there,
I am in the same boat as your are but probably with a diference in the nationalities and roles played. I am a local Singaporean who was married for 6 years to an European lady. Now she has divorced me and and I still dont get a clear picture as to the reasons of why she divorced me. I feel so shattered and lost. The separation has been way too painful, sometimes words dont describe the despondency and melancoly I experience.
It would be nice to talk to someone who is in the same shoes - I guess it goes some way to healing the internal wounds. I have been looking to see if there are any support groups for divorcees but am yet to come across any.

hi there,
I'm having the same situation as you, where I've married for 10 years but my husband is committed an affair lately. He wanted to file for a divorce.
Now, I am lost focus in my job and daily activities, and trying to cope with this most challenging life event.
It would be nice to have someone to share our feelings.

Hey folks,
I've a similar situation. My marriage has not officially ended, but we both know its a matter of time. I know that its not going to survive but I'm too scared to let go. It would be nice to meet up, and maybe I can learn how to pick up the pieces after its over.

I have recently learnt that everyone has the right to be happy and no-one should be forced or feel they need to stay in a loveless marriage? Sometime the decision to go is easy, but the actual going is hard....but we gain through the pain and can come out the other side with the chance to be happy?

Hi there,
I am Singaporean but lived in Britain for a number of years. We were separated during this period and I am back in this place to settle the legalities of the divorce.
I am trying to be as amicable as possible with the soon to be ex husband while I am trying to make my way back to Britain to pick up my life where I left it off.
We are both now seeing other people and another day in Singapore is just a painful reminder of all the legal battles I have to go through!
Any support would be great!
me too

looks like we have lots of people in the same boat... my wife left me for another man last year so we are now going through divorce. happy to share all the legal stuff that i dug up on divorce in singapore with people in a similar situation.
As someone mentioned above, the law is totally skewed in favour of the women due to the women's charter. based on the english law of no-fault divorce, essentially the man has to look out for his own interest even if he is the innocent party.
anyway, always happy for support. it is easy to divorce but to walk away from 8 years of marriage is tough.

Hi. i have read your situation. i can understand what you are going thru. it is a situation that is totally outside of your control. i hv researched a little about this topic and the legal system in singapore. it favours women due to the women's charter. so rest assured and get yourself a good lawyer to give you some solid advice about what you can do to optimise the situation for yourself and after the whole saga, know that you can start your life all over again. for me, i feel that it is much better to let him go to his new flame but make sure he pay gravely for it in terms of money. then, take this money and start your new life and perhaps, you will find a nicer man to spend the rest of your life with. this scenario happened with me and i hv found some one much much more better than the first man. even if you are say 40 years now, you still have 30 more years of life to live with potential greater happiness and you can still make a difference to this world with your contribution of work and life.
