I wasn´t sure where to post my question exactly but I hope I will get some helpful answers here.
So, here we go.
I´m a student from Germany and I will come next month to Sing. for an internship. At the moment I´m thinking about to buy a new glass for me and may be it will be cheaper to buy in Singapore. A friend of mine had done an internship in Taiwan and said it would be better only to buy the spectacle lenses in Sing. and the glass frame in Germany. She said in Taiwan she had to search very hard to find models that fits caucasians, because most glass frames are made for chinese ( brown eyes, black hair, nose). Makes sense.

So what is the the situation in Sing. ?
How much do you pay for spectacle lenses ( glas or plastic, bloomed, hardened)?
Is it easy to find a glass frame that fits a caucasian? (I´m the classic blue-eyed-blond-hair-type with a typical caucasian nose) Or shoud I buy in Germany?

u can get almost all sorts of glasses here, multicoated, rimless, etc
I got a pair few months ago, about S$160.00 I think you can get it a bit cheaper, depending on where u buy it. Its important to get your eyes tested and all, just dont let them take u for a ride cos if they see you are an expat, they may charge more. Go to a shop with a local who has been there before. Ask for a discount. tell them you are a student and dont have too much money!

I´m looking for a rimless glass and checked out my local otpicians for the prices. For the amount what you paid for your glass in Sing I just get 1 lense . And that was the cheapest offer!
Without knowing what kind of glass and what your lenses made of your are wearing I try my luck in Sing.

I'm pretty darn sure you can get extremely good quality frames + lenses in Singapore. The last I bought a pair of glasses in the US, they cost me US$200 which would have easily cost S$160 locally.

There are tons of frames to choose from, but if you're really looking to go cheap, there's a place called Queensway shopping center where the prices are generally ridiculous. I would prefer to just fill my prescription in these shops though.

from what I read I´m pretty sure to find the glasses I´m looking for. Reading your and Lane´s posts encouraged me to buy in Sing. I´m not looking for cheap glasses in the meaning of poor quality. I just want the same quality for a better price. For a rimless frame I have to pay about 100€ here and for the lenses( bloomed, hardened) it starts at 170€. In total S$=560. There must be a better deal for me in Sing.

I´m not that cheap-charly I ma be to look right now. But as a student, with a little income I have to optimize where I can.

I was surprised when I visited today after reading through this forum. Eyewear shops everywhere. 10+ places to choose from.

Some places try to rip you off, so shop around. Bargining is a must. Really cheap stuff, some frames only 45$.

I was looking through to see if there's a particular shopping mall that's got a good selection of eyewear...sorta like a Funan for sunglasses? I'm in the market, have a few models in mind and want to see if I can get a better price. Is Queensway still a good option? I wasn't paying close attention last time I was there, but it seemed to me to be mostly sporting goods stores.

Suntec tower 1, 2 and 3 on the first floor - about 5/6 opticians with a wide range of frames and sunglasses, and likely to be all original.

I've heard quite a few opticians, in the smaller malls, stock a lot of counterfeit stock.

There is a massive one at tower 5 (Billy is obviously not that sure about the geography of Suntec, even though he lunches there daily ) It's at the bottom of the escalators to the e-life section, right next to the Duck Tours, I forget it's name, but it's got a huge selection!
