Singapore Expats

Hi,
We'll be arriving August. We are a Dutch + Scottish couple with a 7 year old boy. He will be going to the Lycee Francais and we would like him to feel settled and hopefully make a couple of friends before starting school. Can anyone advise on nice days out / places to go for kids of his age (are there any indoor play centres??).

Of course we'll be looking for a place to live when we get there. preferrably a condo or apartment. Have no clue what the area close to the school is like but I would like to live fairly closeby. Has anyone got any recommendations?

Hello. My wife and I are arriving from the USA in August with a 9 year old girl and 7 year old boy. I will be home schooling them, so I'm really interested in finding ways for them to meet other kids and happy to get suggestions that come up on this board.

Hi Colette, Lycee Francaise is in Ang Mo Kio which is quite central. I live on the East Coast and a couple of kids go to the Lycee also the German school too. East Coast is not close by but only around 30 mins on a school bus. The benefit is that after school and weekends you have East Coast Park for rollerblading, skateboarding, cycling, jogging, soccer, fishing, playing on the beach......etc
I have a friend who chose to live closer to the (German) school and now they are looking to move over to East Coast.
As for the school bus its actually a great way for your child to socialise en route. Whereas as parents (and I did at first) think their child is too young or the journey too long, very quickly you discover that its actually one of your childs favourite times of the day

Hi Rexeter - we play softball every Thursday (boys and girls age 7-12), just a casual meet-up, no fees or leagues! If you move to East Coast would be great to see you all there!

You have a lot place for the children where to play outside... parks like the botanical, east coast park where you can rent a bicycle, rollerskate... pasir ris park (my best) with a big play ground, or if you like water game wild wild wet... but the list is more longer...

just close to the school(walking distance), you have a condominium name Kesington Park, as all of condo in singapore you have a lot facilites like pool (olympique one for this condo) tennis court, gymroom.....

every where in singapore you can find some small park, with playground. you have one juste after the school with a big spiderclimb, and a "field" where the child can play soccer or rugby.....

I live in Serangoon and my child use their bicycle to go to the french school

I just want to tell you if you move to East Coast, and your childs go to the french school, the Yellow school bus don't go to this part of Singapore. you must joine the people who rent a private bus, or drive every day to school.

Good luck with your move here. Have a look at the Kidzpassport site for ideas on activities for your kids once you get here. In answer to your question there are several indoor play centres, also waterparks, museums etc. A 7yo would probably like the Forest Adventure at Bedok.
