Hi All,
Our new bank is thinking of starting internet banking in Singapore. What are some potential issues with this? Is internet banking popular in singapore? Is it shunned upon? I would like to use online banking soon but arent sure what barriers people have faced in setting it up with the banks existing in Singapore? Do many of you currently use it? Do any of you want to use it but have yet to set it up? Is there some sort of incentive that'll make you switch over to internet banking?
Thanks

Are you for real? I took you for a spammer/advertiser until I checked your IP address. You are here in Singapore and have to ask that question? Google any major bank in Singapore and see if they have online banking. If they do, I guess that would answer your questions really quick wouldn't it. They obviously wouldn't have it if it doesn't work.

ive looked into it its just that it seems there is a low percentage of people with bank accounts that actually use the online banking systems provided. i want to hear the information coming from customers, not the people that create the initial problem. are there any common issues that deter them from using the service? for example having a paper based registration process or the fear of security compromises?

lets put it this way, i dont see any uncle and aunty sitting in kopitam or hawker center with their iPhone surfing the net and doing their online banking, that's for sure.
you probably get a higher percentage of people watching porn on their mobile than doing online banking!

Obviously you mean via hours spent?
Most Aunties and Uncles are computer illiterate so there is probably the biggest problem.

If I'm not wrong, online banking is still pretty limited, although useful inside the Country.
Outside the Country is something else, with regards to those you are targeting, I mean you are looking at a specific income per household, otherwise you wouldn't be on an expat forum.
Again the banks never really like to make clear the liabilities and risks, involved with internet banking, and are loosing millions of $ to the cyber criminals.
I had been informed by my English bank, that I shouldn't use there service while outside of the UK, because I would have to bear the risk, so what good is it? Yes it is good for those inside the Country if they need it, although i would look at what the bank expects in return, and the risk factors to cyber crime, and who actually does have the liability.
I do know personally a few people that have had their bank accounts siphoned, because of their lack of computer security skills

I am actually amazed at the huge lines at the cash deposit teller machines. Surely it would be so much easier and faster to use online banking.
