Singapore Expats

With all this talk of recession and job cuts going around, I was jsut wondring if there are stil any high-paying jobs in Singapore at the moment? Anything in the range of 200k?

My past experience and work as a Private Wealth Manager has now placed me in this unfortunate postion. Anything less would be step down, money-wise. that is...

A step down is always better than stepping off the roof though as happened on Black Monday. At least he was retrenched and not indited for some sort of impropriety. Not related to Paul Maden are you?

Yes there are a few but you can bet those in those positions are sitting on 'em as hard as then can. Singapore has not been affected at the highest levels too much at the moment but middle management is taking a beating and will probably continue to do so for some time. Especially for the expatriate type positions.

And another thing, my friend was contacted and processed by headhunter for a large european private bank who is building in SEA, headhunter told my friend that an offer will be made... in THREE months. Are all headhunters using this tactic just to hold candidates? Where's the ethics?

Is it true that it is an employers market now?

A friend got hired 250k++ and more than 3 months guaranteed bonus. Was hired Nov last year to big name bank... for IT?! Happy to know they exist now I just have to find them... suggestions?

You could try trading. Several companies here hiring trainee traders. You get a small basic (around2-3k) whilst you train and then its either sink or swim. If you sink at least you didn't lose YOUR money and you have learned a skill and if you swim you'll be on the 200k+ that you mentioned.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, trading ismore suitable for an Investment Analyst or Banker, which I am not.

Trading however, would be an option for me should things get worse..worse than they already are.

HaHa, I love wild ambition in any form (false or not)… dreamer_swan, my suggestion would be that if you are currently unemployed, and you scaled to the enjoyable heights of 200K+ not so long ago, then this current climate would be an ideal opportunity to utilise your vast network of contacts you created in getting to the alleged 200K+ role…
