Singapore Expats

Well, I'm not so much into these technologies, but I'm tired of carrying my computer with me whole day so I have decided to upgrade my phone to one with email/IM/good surfing/able to read documents.

I don't need too fancy music things (itunes or so), neither a too good camera.

So any suggestion? Looks like Blackberry is my top option now. But any advice would be really appreciated.

iPhone might be your best option. with the new iPhone 3G S, your surfing experience will be better too as it is using high speed data. if you do type a lot, then a blackberry, HTC or a nokia E71 could be an option too.

and yes, they do it in pink too.

Ah Ms. C loves her Blacberry Bold. All her peeps use iPhones (including the new one), and I am stuck with an HTC Touch Pro 2 piece of %$&#!!!

The Bold does it all, but specilises in corporate e-mail, but NOT that good at Office apps. It does enough to get you by.

I guess you're either a PC or Mac, a Holden or a Ford, a Chrysler or GM!

Not too much Office that I need....

Mainly I would have some important documents in the phone that I can check in the spot if required. My main weapon will still be my laptop, of course.

So I don't need so much. Yes, at the moment Blackberry would be my option.

iPhone,... curious. People usually love it or hate it. So I don't want to take the 50% risk

i am a blackberry user. have used the blackberry and nokia E61 to surf the net and it was painful (even more on a symbian nokia 6120)! but for corp emails and typing, blackberry and E61/E71 are brilliant.

if i need a device to surf the net on the move, my weapon of choice would be the iPhone. i dont have an iPhone myself but have used my brother's.

I got a Blackberry Curve 8900.... I will share my thoughts after playing a little bit

I am tempted by the BB Bold. The push email is a major attraction and I wanna use the trackball. but it is quite an old phone.

I currently use an E71 Nokia and thinking of upgrading to the N97.

Anyone have experience with the N97 ?

Go to the Nokia web site and download "Nokia PC suite"
You may also need the Nokia USB driver

Go for Windows mobile.
It has Outlook, wi-fi,You get Skype and other IM client for WM
You can make voIP calls easily, It has GPS chip which helps you to locate streets without need of internet. Just install Garmin, TomTom and you are good to go.
I am personally happy with my Asus P320 which I bought last year. It's robust too. Fallen several times but screen doesnt damaged.
Only drawback of some windows mobiles is less battery back up.
Rest features are unmatches like my Asus P320 supports up to 16 gig micro SD card. No other lower cost mobile offers this.
I bought Asus P320 last year in India for around 350 SG$

get the palm pre ! well actually, it is not possible to get one in Singapore right now, since it is only available on the PCS standard. Come December though that would change, and they will release the GSM version of the phone too. The phone is fantastic, has both multi-touch and a physical keyboard, and offers fantastic multi-app functionality.

Besides the Palm Pre, another options worth looking at (if you are not into the iPhone) are Nokia E71 (beautiful phone), and Blackberry's new Curve (I think its called Javelin). Both are solid options.

If you read above messages you can see that this is exactly what I got a few weeks ago

Quite happy with it at the moment. Still playing with all options, put pushmail, GPS, office, ... all them working enough for my needs!
