Singapore Expats

Looking for a Radian 80 convertible carseat since my 10 month old is way too big for his infant carseat. Radian's are great b/c they are super-safe & they fold, but I haven't had any luck finding a new one in Singapore. Suggestions welcome!

(Neither mothercare.com.sg or babytown.com have them.)

Need advice. I'm flying to the States in less than 2 weeks, plan to buy a Radian 80 there. What should I do for the plane ride? We already bought my 10-month-old a ticket. But I hate to have him confined to his too-small infant carseat for 20 hours, staring at the back of his seat the whole time. I don't think we can use a CARES harness b/c he's not yet 1-yr old. We don't have extra money to buy another car seat just for the flight over.

Has anyone rented a car seat from an airline? We're flying NWA with three flights in total. Would I be able to take the seat with me from start to finish, through the airports, etc. Or would they already have the car seats installed ( ) on each flight? I don't even know if my son would fit in them. Anyone been through this?

Have you tried calling the airline and asking them?

I'm in the process of calling them now, but personal experience can be much more helpful than speaking with an employee who is only familiar with giving scripted answers and has never actually experienced the situation.

Called them. NWA doesn't rent car seats. I think we may try the CARES harness...

your 10 months old child has a ticket but wont have a seat (unless you pay for one) and will have to be on your lap for the duration of the flight. what you need to do is request a cot. they are very limited as they are only available in the front roll.

only a child above 2 has to buy a seated ticket.

ouch! a seat for a 11 month baby!

personally, i wouldnt have bought my baby a seat. i opted for the cot for all my kids below 2 years old when they travel. so much more fun and space for the baby to play about once the plane is in the air. the last time was when my son was 2 days before his 2nd birthday for a non-stop flight time of about 13 hours.

since you got a seat, you are "allow" to bring a carseat for your baby but subject to the airline approval. you will need to check with them.

I know. I can't believe the price. But my husband and I are both using miles, so at least it balances out a bit. The only reason I do it is because I have heard that babies have actually died in the bassinet when turbulence hit. If anything happened like that, I would never forgive myself. We were always just planning to use his regular car seat; we didn't expect him to outgrow it so quickly! I can't wait to get the Radian 80! Hopefully he'll use it for years!

I'm with Durian - shame you already have the seat. We only did that when the company was paying and only to get the extra luggage to haul stuff back! When the airline sees you are traveling with an infant they will usually put you in the front whether you have purchased a seat or not - so do try and reserve a bassinet - if anything to put your stuff in (bottles, blankets, food, toys...etc.) I traveled with the Baby Bjorn for a super long time on the flights (18 mo+). I was able to strap them through with the infant strap the airline gives you and they could lie on me while still being secure. If you are changing flights that often - you won't disrupt them. Not so comfortable for you - but works pretty well.

never heard about the radian 80 before. had a google on it and it looks pretty neat piece of kit. i like the way it is portable. i only use britax and recaro.

First Few Years at Paragon? I think I remember seeing radians there. Its not on their website but they seldom list their full inventory on their website
