watching national day fireworks (rehearsal)

Where is the simplest place to watch these with kids? A rehearsal is fine (they won't know the difference). Rather than get tickets and make a big event of it I'd rather just find a suitable cafe or viewing platform where we can easily leave if the kids are tired or have had enough. Any suggestions? (Ditto the airplane flyovers...)
