Singapore Expats

I am a single female relocating to singapore in late september and need to hire a live-in maid to take my Lab Puppy called Boo for toilet breaks and walks during the day time and also care for her overnight when I am travelling. Light cleaning and Laundry would be the only other requirements.

Can anyone suggest an agency that will be able to accommodate?

If anyone also has an idea of a good area to live in with parks close by for these walks - would also be greatly appreciated

Unless your maid is a muslim, you shouldn't have too much trouble on the dog front. Most any agency will do but you will have to let the agency know what your requirements are in advance. As far as a good agency is concerned? I'm not sure there is such a thing. Do a search of the threads on this forum and the sticky at the top of the forum regarding maids. That should get you started. singapore is basically full of parks and green spots. some people prefer to rent near their jobs or near the "city area" but if you dont mind being a little bit to the west then there are many new condominiums very near the west coast park.

Dog friendly maid! But is your dog a Maid friendly dog?

I know a maid that's great with dogs. I'm not sure what seasoning she uses, but it really brings out the flavour of the meat

Is she from PRC or Korean?

I know there are a lot of parks in Singapore but are any dog off leash even after certain hours?

Everyone I have seen so far the dog requires to be leashed at all times. I was thinking that I might get a dog here if I start to look like being here long term and chatted with my condo owners and they were fine with it. Just need to adjust the rental terms before I buy.

I had to leave my dog at home she is on the banned list here because she is a staffy. So heart breaking as she was very smart and excellent with small children which was why I got the breed in the first place.

Thank you to everyone for thier responses - albiet some of them a little scary I am relocating from the UK - and am aware of the the religious restrictions with regards and to employing a maid and respect these fully.

What would be the average cost of employing a maid on a monthly basis for these duties? I know it sounds crazy just getting a full time live in maid for a dog but because of the amount of travelling I will be doing it seems like the only option. Perhaps getting ahusband would be easier?!

i see dog's off the leash mainly at morning times where i live and at the science park 2, there is always this old fella with his two labradors off the leash.

about the laws and so, i really dont know but considering how silly and nonsensically coward my colleagues react to dogs off the leash, it makes me believe that they are just not used to the sight, hence... there should be a law...

on the other hand, the west coast park has a big area for dogs only, where they can run and play freely.

part time maids that go to your house for a few hours do some chores and go have an hourly rate between S$10 to S$15.

you can ask that one of the chores is to walk the dog and they may charge you a little bit extra for that or not at all.

my dogs have always being very important to me, so in that sense i will advise you to be aware of the risks, around this area (asia) generally speaking animals are as low as objects, a maid may not see your dog as we see he/she and may treat the dog accordingly.

This is my concern - as I would be devastated if the puppy was badly treated when I am not around. Ideally do you think a transfer maid that has looked after dogs in the past would be the best idea? I guess I am just going to have to be clear when describing the position that is a priority that they have looked after dogs before.

my advice will be to only consider part time maids with references from other people with dogs, the agency will say anything (and again, the agency wont really take your request for an animal very seriously... cause [apologies to generalize here] even when the people with dogs here think they are actually treating the animal well, for me it is just awful.

another thing is to interview and check how they react to the dog, pay attention to the body language, it is very easy to know a person who respects dogs from a person who behaves as the doggie is just a pet or thing from one person who just dont like them.

on the other hand, where i live i see many maids taking the dogs for a walk and they look really sweet and caring (i assume they are also happy to take a break and go out for a change)...

You can bring ur bubby to my place and I will look after for you while you not home.

We were the same with our baby girl back home, never left her alone and she was more important to us than anything in the world. Unfort she passed of old age before we move here.
