One person informed me, that my messenger keeps sending links.

I know one of my contacts in Taiwan, also sent me links, so i guess i am infected now, although i downloaded the MSN Virus removal tool, it cannot enter my registry, becuase it says i must use the administrator logon. Can that be right, or is it being blocked by firewall? No other log on is available

Well it's very easy to check the accounts, and the guest account is off, so it only leaves the admin account.

Anyway, they sent me a debug program, which scanned everything and no virus was found. But since i downloaded IE 5.0.5730.13 I have had constant browser freezing, almost every time i open the browser, takes 3 to 5 times to connect to the homepage. I'm almost on the verge of throwing the computer through the window. I know i should just reformat the lot, but cannot be bothered.

Then someone told me my messenger was behaving strangely by sending links, the same happened to me, when a friend of mine logged on in Taiwan, his messenger was infected, being a stockbrocker, it caused quite a problem for his clients.

Anyway no virus found! and I've checked for adware no problems.

OMG only 1400 errors and it fixed 20 of them! Anyone actually purchased this download and used it? Is it also worth getting the discounts they are offering for opt sys and hard drive?

Just wondering if it can be purchased here in Singapore on disc?

me using the freeware and it works a treat. had some problem with a user laptop. symantec antivirus found some trojan and couldnt remove it. scan it with malwarebyte sorted it.

please do your self a favour and stop using symantec..it's the biggest piece of buggy crap known to man . Sucks up resources...nearly impossible to remove...just down right terrible.

Malwarebytes is great sorts out 99.9% of problems ..the rest you can nail with spybot
All free and updated daily.

Just out of curiosity what's your take on AVG antivirus? I've been using it for a few years now, works well and much better than, yes, the PAYING Symantec antivirus which does nothing except slow down my computer. Would you recommend Malware over AVG?

if you want to pay for antivirus, then get eset nod32, fast, low resources and reliable. if you want freeware, then go for AVG, avast, avira, etc. there's no definitive answer as which one is THE BEST antivirus.

malware and spyware are not virus, hence you need another scanner for it. some antivirus are beginning to include malware and spyware scanner into their virus scanner. but for the moment, malwarebytes.org is a well trusted malware scanner.

I actually use them both as i think they target slightly different things.

I have AVG to update itself and then scan every night.
I use malwarebytes a couple of time a week and about once a week i run
spybot. Keeps everything running fine.

I am so pleased with the free version of AVG i'm tempted to buy the licience. BUT they offer Internet security and this usually indicates a suite of programs that i can't control properely and that suck up system resources.

I prefer the manual way . At least i know whats doing whats and whats running in the background.

You can upgrade to anti-virus pro which doesn't include the internet security stuff. Have a look at http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-v ... n_free_670 to compare the products. I still use the free version though, since I can't see any advantage to upgrading.

Change your windows live account password. The messenger virus that i have seen infect 3 of my friends accounts didn't run locally but logged in to their account from somewhere else, sent some bogus messages and then logged off. It only stayed logged on for a very short time. You'll notice this behavior as: your friend logs on, straight away you get a bogus message from them, they log off.... all within a few seconds.

Changing the password puts an end to that. The shortest way I have found to do this so far is: Go to windows live mail, select Options, More Options, from the menu on the left under "Show options for" select Windows Live. Under Account click Password.
