Does anyone know where the best area to live in would be for getting to the central area?

My new workplace is in the central area, Alexandra Road to be precise, we are considering a move to the central location and my budget is around $4000 sgd.
Ideally need a 3 bed, not fussed on apartment and/or house to be honest, just want to get a feel of where and what to look out for and whether my budget is realistic.
Anyone have a rough idea what the utilitie bills will be for an 3 bed apartment or house?

Needs to be walking distance to a preschool and/or hospital really?


Dont really want to spend that much in all honesty but from what i have seen on some websites it seems thats the price im going to have to pay for a decent 3 bed, am i right?

Again any help would be most appreciative.

Literally on Alexandra Road itself, the place that immediately springs to mind is The Anchorage. $4k will get you a pretty nice place there. I suspect that your office will be further down near the Telok Blangah Road end and that will open up even more options for you. Harbourview Towers is 5 minutes away (on the city side) and will be in your price range. Going about 5 more minutes further West will take you to Pasir Panjang Road and a whole load of other mostly low-rise condos. Plenty to choose from there.

Utility bills are always hard to calculate because there are so many factors. As a single person who doesn't cook and only uses the aircon in the evening, the bill fro my 3-bed apartment is only around $115 a month. A family of 3 or 4 would obviously cost more. Perhaps around $300 to $400 a month?
