Just wanted to ask for advice about a crazy neighbour. After moving to a new place i hung out my laundry for the first outside a week ago and didn't realise it was dripping. This crazy person knocked on the door and screamed verbal abuse (non stop) that my laundry was dripping on everyone else's and i was arrogant because i lived on the first floor etc etc, i didn't even realise my laundry was dripping so i apologise and i said i will take it in - she kept yelling verbal abuse and didnt stop !! It was a horrible experience.

Anyway from that day i make sure my laundry is spun at least twice and i make sure it is not dripping when i hang it outside. This weekend i hung my non dripping laundry out (i am certain of this!) and when i did soon after it started to rain, drizzling at first. Before i even finished she comes banging on the door again hurling verbal abuse at me. I told her it's not my laundry and that i made sure it doesn't drip and this time it's the rain ! she refused to listen and kept hurling accusations at me and kept telling me never to drip my laundry again - BUT I HAVENT DONE IT AGAIN! it was RAINING!!! I also tested one piece of the same batch of laundry by hanging it inside and it didn't drip at all the whole day.

She just wouldn't listen and then threatened to call the police if my laundry dripped again..

Any advice!! ??? Do you think she will call the police? Why can't these people understand logic??? it's RAINING!!

Are you in condo???

If so, don't answer door and call your security straight up. If she call police, let her because if it not dripping you have nothing to worry about.

I have had probs before with neighbor with different things, but have found out you can not deal with them personally and always got security to deal with. (my prob was with noisy Indian neighbors though)

These people you can not reason with.

Thanks so much for your support. It's crazy and you are right, there are just some people here that can't be reasoned with, i have no idea what the problem is.. why can't they see the bleeding obvious that it's raining! There's no security that i can call though as it's not a condo...

I think the police have better things to do than come to calls about dripping laundry.

Just record her rants on your phone or video cam and keep a diary of harrassment in case it goes further. Just beware that if you do record her and she can see you she could go further off the rails so remember to be aware of your own safety.

Ive seen these issues goes to tribunals or courts before and as soon as they see the other perosn on tape being totally unreasonable they have no case and their word is not taken over yours.

Better yet, tell her the next time she comes screaming like a harridan, you will take one of the galah poles and shove it somewhere she's not likely to forget!

NOW I get it! That is the reason why people have iron gates in HDB flats. To avoid neigbours attacking them.

Jokes aside, Nath 21 is right. Record it and if she wants to call the police, let her do so. There is a law for everything in Singapore but I am sure there is no law about dripping laundry when it is raining. Some of them aunties in the heartlands are just weird and their culture can be very confrontational.

You kept claiming you are working with the association and is a grassroot leader. Is that how you will propose to resolve the problem????

my goodness... ur neighbour is nuts!

if she ever comes up to ur door again, jus hold up ur handphone and video down every of her moves and words. and protect urself from all the crazy nonsense. otherwise, like wad the rest said, dont open ur door.

you should consider getting a dryer too!

What else can I say. Most of the regulars here already know me.

You will defo know it when I'm serious. Just like when I told the KJockey in the Karaoke lounge downstairs that if they didn't shut it down at night when they were supposed to and to keep the volume down as the rest of the residents were complaining, I was going to find a way to shut 'em down. It didn't do much good even after the police were called (I could have pressed charges as I was assaulted by 5 guys over it). Instead, I closed them down a different way. That's when I joined the grass roots organization. I shut 'em down from the inside. Today the residents in our block think I can do almost anything! (They had been trying for over a year).

Thank you so much everyone for your responses! really appreciate it..these unreasonable people are everywhere. I think there are definitely more irrational people in this world than rational. It's going to be a bit hard to video her if i don't open the door (which i haven't so far)...hmmm

You started working there as a KTV waitress and provided really bead customer service so they lost all their clients and went bankrupt? Wow!

Bad customer service? How would they know the difference? All customer service here is bad!

Guess you haven't been to Europe or specifically the UK in a long while then. In comparison it seems like "the sun is shining out of every customer services agent's bottom" in Singapore.

Hopefully, you were not serious else i would think your mentality is no different from "harridan".

It always good to have volunteer willing to stand out to represent. Nevertheless, your residents should not be feeling helpless as thinking you can do almost anything. There are town council which they can easily access to...
