Singapore Expats

Hi people,
Before I start making calls to the agent and looking at other places, I'd like to know what the neatest/hassle free way to remove yourself from a tennant agreement is.

I'm living with 3 other people (so 4 total)... so my moving wouldn't be a termination of the contract per-se but just a removal of me from it so obviously some paper work will need to be done... has anyone had to do this before and what is the best approach to keep everyone happy?
ie) I'm guessing if there's a person to move in as I move out it would keep it all smooth?

I'm from Brisbane, and usually this process is as simple as filling out 1 piece of paper with the signatures of all parties are currently on the contract, and then those that will be on the contract.

Hi Matt. I guess it depends on whether your landlord wants to play ball or not. Worst case though you could always try to use the expat clause in your contract that says if you have to leave the country the contract can be terminated early. This sometimes works even if you are not really leaving the country but it is not the honest option.

but the landlord might want to see prove you are leaving the country before exercising the expat clause!

Buy a refundable one-way ticket.

I'd rather avoid being dodgy and not lie about leaving just yet...

Yeh, well my next step was to call the agent just to let her know my intent, moreso just to get advice of protocol at this point in time!
