Singapore Expats

Howdy ho ppl,

I'm moving from Finland to Singapore on 3rd november. I'm trying to narrow down some options regarding condos, since I'm in a bit of a hurry to get settled and get on with my work once I'm there.

I'm currently looking at The Sail, 2rvg and The Icon. Any thoughts, pros & cons about these? Location-wise they're all fine by me, tho 2rvg is a bit far from MRTs.

Any other suggestions? Some points to consider:
- I'm looking to spend around 3000-3500SGD.
- I'm a single and in all probability staying that way, so don't need that much space.
- I don't really care that much about gyms nor pools.
- A view would be much appreciated.
- I really dig these duplex/loft style apartments they have in Icon and 2rvg.
- A central location is a must.

Does that budget fit that area – from memory I would say it may be slightly tight, but anyway, my only comment on that shortlist would be The Sail – be careful, it’s a building site (next to), and with very few regulations regarding noise it may be 24/7 for the next 12 months depending on which way you face.

I don’t know anything about the others, i didn’t look at those when viewing, as i was looking around East Coast.

Thanks for the tip. Looking at the listings, 3000-3500 should be enough for the smallest flats in those condos.

If you like the look and feel of those condo’s you’ll like any condo built during last 2-3 years, as they all look more or less the same and seem to use the same designers for the interior decoration.

About the Sail, location is actually not that great (at least not yet), unless you work in Raffles Place, then it’s practical, but it’s not really close to nightlife or entertainment or shopping or restaurants. That area is more like a ghost town during evenings and weekends. Plus for the next year or two you’ll be mainly enjoying the construction sites next to you.

Have you already been in Singapore to look around. The city center or downtown location is not that straightforward as in some European cities: as office, nightlife and shopping areas can be somewhat different.

You could consider for example the Central apartments on top of central mall:

It’s only got studios, but if that’s all you need for space, you can get a place on top of shopping mall, opposite Clarke quay for bars and restaurants. MRT station just downstairs under the mall.

All that awful stuff called work, work & work plus some travel and family things. Well still been occasionally reading the discussions going on here.

Spent also some time learning the real estate process in Singapore for buying a property instead of renting. Well still learning some details within that area but getting clearer.

Thanks for the tips. I've spent a bit over 3 weeks in Singapore so I got some idea of how the city is laid out. I'll be working at home initially, so in that respect the location isn't an issue, but being in the middle of the business district could prove to be a bit of a snoozefest.

Why? Tile floors are very common in Singapore, this isn't Finland where your feet would freeze to floor...

Yea I know, I just dislike the texture:

Buy some rugs in Arab Street.........adds colour and warmth.

or slippers.

Speckled light gray isn't a bad choice for flooring. Most of my apt is covered in pure white tiles, which looks pretty for approximately 12 hours after a thorough scrubbing, but starts to look dirty veerrry fast after that -- especially when you live in the CBD and keep the windows open.

Sorry didnt know I cannot post a Real estate website here....it has been removed.

We live down the road from 2rvg and we love the area because it is close to Great World City, Orchard Rd., and Clarke Quay. We are into walking though, so enjoy walking to all of those places and beyond if it isn't pouring rain. Taxis are much cheaper than Finland You could also bus it to an MRT station if necessary.
