Hello all, just joined this forum moved here within last few days to live with my sing GF ....getting married next year... did my 30 years in cop shop then
3 years in cyprus the north end...otherwise know as the dark side.....

here in sing for next 2 to 3 years then lets see. interested in whats going on....im very impressed with sing so far no doubt there are two sides....streets are very orderly compared to my patch in uk....then again maybe ive been looking in the wrong place....i hope not....ok thats it for now..any more ex cops out there...what do you do with your time...im not looking for a career but some work or pastime activity would be welcomed...john

You have law background, you can look at casinos and horse racing as career. Stewards (horse racing)must have some law background and I assume casino will need someone with your experience aswell.

There are 2 new Intergrated resorts (Casino) currently being built here, to open in 2010. Might be worth a look

Yes I would say along the same lines as above… Don’t you long serving guys usually dip into security consultancy for big corps – or the 121 close protection field?

hi and thanks for advice and welcome.....yes ur right about the usual route for ex cops...ive wriiten to sing police ofering to work for free..as i was senior investigating officer for fatal accidents...with the traffic ive seen i may be useful..then again it all seems pretty well under control.......john

Only with special skills and training, and i would at a guess, say ex military trained with combat experience, I was an All Arms skill at Arms instructor, drill instructor and Army Air Corps Helicopter Crew training Instructor for 9 of my 10 years and some of my mates went into the police force to serve after demob. They have an excellent pension scheme.

Welcome to Singapore John, I'm sure you will settle in well! Safer than Thailand referring to a sad incident of a Policeman retired, who was being slowly poisoned by his wife, to get his pension. His mate in UK missed hearing from him and became worried and went looking for him, found him half dead in the jungle. Wife and boyfriend was arrested only a few years back i recall.

What part of UK was you working? Just curious! I'm from the Lancaster area myself up North lad! Never really returned after leaving the Army in 78. Though I did a 23 year stint in Denmark a wonderful place that helped me to become resettled and retrained after 10 years of terrorist warfare, which my own Country ignored because i purchased my 22 year contract back in the 10th year due to divorce and the loss of career!

No real regrets, other than i miss the Country side which is the best in in England around the Lakes.

Singapore is an old residential posting of mine from back in 1970, it was much better back then, though i was only 21, This is a good Country with still lots of potential, to make in roads networking is a good way, though one must decide where to place oneself in the market here.
I'm in the Kovan area so if you are close by, maybe we can have a beer one night!

Singapore is also about learning the patch Not every place is safe when the lights go down, and i would guess that most crimes are not by Singaporeans, but foreigners....The border be careful JB is much worse than what it was back in 1970, and a copy rolex is soon gone, when they use a parang at the wrist joint. What's the old saying from Hill Street Blues "Be careful out there"

Not quite but getting there! You would be very useful! In fact you being in traffic and accident could actually give some real cool advice!

The driving here is really really bad and dangerous, it only takes a simpleton to cause havoc and a Country suffering myopia to be bloody dangerous! The driving laws don't appear to be enforced, or nobody cares, he you overtake on either side when you want, without indication,, you could save a lot of accidents here, and make the force a great deal of money, in fact we should discus business!

Hi thanks for your replies...i was a cop in durham, traffic inspector for 3 years... as SIO dealt with many fatal accidents.....i cant belive the overtaking on both sides and as a fromer motorcyclist i shudder when i see what they wear or shall i say donrt wear..they weave in and out of traffic unbelievable......before that front line stuff, spell as career development, personnel and crime prevention....bee involved in the insectorate and police investigation etc..i was quite lucky really in my career ..id reccomend it to anyone... divorce had me off the streets for a few years..children opted to stay with me..so career was abandonned...Sadly an its only my opinion..the UK has lost the plot in terms of law and order ..the youth run the streets...i must add though there are many good kids out there too butinority rule..as usual.....and we dealt with the usual ..most towns have the gangs hanging around the shopsand the effects of alcohol are seen every weekend..hence my plan to live abroad.. ..when i travel around here im amazed at how clean it is and no feeling of who s at my back...ive just moved from North Cyprus..a nice very safe but scruffy place....been there 3 years and never saw a fight..broken window or damaged car.....here now with Sing GF gettinfg wed next year.so im here for a while yet..e [email protected]

Even if offering to work for free, likely you will need to provide references.

Hi thanks for that tip..i have record of my degree etc at home in uk plus my cert of service for cops, commendations and so forth....im sure i can get copy of my service record to say what where and when etc...going back for two weeks in november ....lets see what transires ...again thanks ...all info welcom...
