Singapore Expats

I`ve seen a few threads now where EPs are looking to move to Singapore from half way across the globe (NY, London) without actually having a job.
In these instances, I`m just wondering what the attraction is about Singapore that would tempt you to pack up your bags and leave to come here?

For me, I use to live in Singapore when I was younger (in my teens), also have relatives living singapore. When I was a teenager, I remember going to Raffles and seeing all the large buildings, and admired all the business people in their expensive business suits. I told my self one day I would love to be working in one of these huge skyscrappers..... I guess that dream will soon come true.

Lingering memories and the fragrance of the past, with good business prospects, not forgetting the marketing mix

safe to do whatever whenever. food's available at all hours and at all prices. good infrastructure (comms & transport), good medical facilities. good air hub. an efficient govt (like everything else in singapore) that is pro-business/$... the greenery. weather (when it's not raining).

while there are many things attractive in singapore, i don't like the TV channels/programming here. the lack of free speech. no freedom of expression.

the inability to own/carry weapons bum me out. selfish behavior of singaporeans annoy me. dog shit on side walks (private estates). dirty beaches. local drivers. disrespect for anything on 2 or 3 wheels.

the requirement to apply for a pricey license/registration to do just about any and everything - and then find out that most of those activities are heavily restricted/controlled.

General comment: Am I the only one who is starting to get sick of all those: what do you like/keeps you in Singapore threads?

really? is it an acquired taste? I used to hate beer but its kind of tasty now

yes. it was that bad.

these days, i actually enjoy the smell and eat it occasionally. like, eat it-eat it.

smell'd it many times and thought to myself "no way will I ever put something that smells that bad, into my mouth"
One day, was convinced by a so-called friend to "try"
So now I have had twice - the first time and the last time.

Never again.

looking at the topic and response... we can all safely assume durians have not been the reason why people move to singapore.

Got it right on my first day I arrived to SG. I like the fresh fruit from time to time but don't like anything processed (cakes, ice creams etc).

And few years back I got this clever idea to bring one full-horn-shell durian back to Europe. I put it in a plastic, lid-sealed bucket wrapped up inside 3 plastic bags nicely scotch-taped all together. Such prepared parcel patiently awaited in my fridge for 3 days before the departure. I was very surprised not being questioned by the customs as the smell was clearly there after I opened my suitcase. Apparently the custom officer was focused more on electronics and some people travel with their stuff not exactly clean. Perhaps the most interesting thing in this story is that the smell disappeared from my fridge only 3 months after.

Which is why we have a small seperate fridge for durians!! Its no worse the some seriously bad smelling cheese, just step into to the stinky cheese room at jones grocery and thats pretty grim.

But you put your smelly stuff to the fridge likely as it is and mine was sitting there sealed inside a plastic bucket and 3 bags

personally I`m not a big fan of that smelly fruit
