Singapore Expats

Does anyone have any recommendations / comments on Montessori or Steiner? I'm looking to put our son onto the waitlist for next year. need either Holland or City location..

Montessori and the Waldorf method (R.Steiner) are 2 different ways of teaching. Montessori tends to be very structured and they really focus on the child's own play to teach. The Waldorf method focuses on your natural ways to engage the child. For example, instead of plastic cars, they will use pine cones to spark the child's imagination. The Waldorf method really emphasis that each child is different and makes their own choices. My friends who have their child in the Waldorf schools loooove it and swear by them. They see a real difference in their child's free play and ideas.

Have you visited each school during school hours to see? Can your child do a trial class in each to see which he/she naturally prefers?

we arrive in a few weeks so I will arrange a visit to see. He's a very physical boy who likes reading, music, and is doing a lot of sign language (he's almost 15 mnths) and we're keen to see him continue to be fulfilled. I spend a lot of time on the floor playing and teaching at the moment but understand the 'helper' route will only give us 'childminding' rather than 'childhood education'.
I will be returning to work after maternity leave, and it will be quite different for all of us!!

the best way to find out is to do a tour and then a trial class with your child. Many of the playclasses are centered oriented with a music element as well - not just montessori and the waldorf method. there are tons of options here.

We have our 13 year old son in a Steiner school, in Denmark where we live now.

We arrive Singapore in the end of december 09, and hope that we can find a school in time for our son to start in january.

We are looking for a school that uses childrens different learnings styles in the classroom teaching.

Are you aware of any school in Singapore with different learningsstyles and/or Steiner school?
