Its not really romantic in the classic 'candle light and soft music' sense, but my wife and I do a date night every couple of weeks at Donna Carmella on Greenwood off Bukit Timah (in same complex as Swiss Butcher).

Its a family run Italian place that really bustles at night, a guitar crooner roaming around can be arranged to serenade, and you can have full dinner with wine for $100. Great value.

I think its an excellent place for a date, maybe not romantic, more along the fun theme.

Yes the one on PPanjang is quieter and more along the romance line, but I've gone twice and both times the pasta was undercooked and service not great.

Greenwood is where the bosses hang out and is much 'crisper' in their professionalism. Also much busier so reservation a good idea.

Also liked the other location off Portsdown - that might be the most romantic of them all as its very quiet, no guitarist strumming up a storm - don't take me the wrong way, I like both the guitarists but if you want to stare deeply into your dates eyes, having someone crooning dean martin songs next to the table can be a bit corny and over-the-top. I'm corny and over-the-top so I like it

I'm also a Donna Carmela fan (Greenwood outlet, haven't been to PP yet). Food quality is a little uneven, but it is very good value by Singapore standards, especially the wine. They also have some good dishes hidden on the menu, eg. anything involving the mozzarella they import themselves.

and some where around the area got a bar and bistro if u are up for drink after dinner.

it's near hort park, you could go for little walk before dinner as well.

You might want to try Rochester park. Theres a bundle of colonial restaurants there. Very Chic

Sadly, after recommending Donna Carmela, I went again on Saturday. Not so good this time. "Papa" was trying to get me to buy a more expensive wine and when I told him that I knew the one I wanted, he said quite sharply that they didn't have it, until I spotted it on the shelf.

My meal was lovely but my husband had the most disappointing Calzone. It seemed microwaved and we struggled to find a filling. All in all, not good. Lets hope it was just an off night.
