Singapore Expats

We are an Aussie family, with 2 young kids. we are looking at places to live and the East Coast seems to be more within our budget. Can anyone recommend any good places to live, with expat families like us living there? We are quite taken by Simei, anyone living out that way?

East coast is a good place to live but Simei is not considered part of east coast.

We live at The Bayshore and there is a great expat community there - also shuttle buses to the nearest large shopping mall (Parkway Parade), the MRT, and a bus directly to the cbd.

There are quite a few condos out on the east coast, many of them (like ours) walking distance to the east coast park as well.

Depends entirely what your budget is. East Coast is a large area and like any area has old vs new condo's available. The closer to the city you are the higher the prices will go up. I have lived in Tanjong Rhu for last 3.5 years and can say it is the perfect place in terms of proximity to city, shopping and the soon to be opened gardens by the bay. There are also shuttles buses door to door for those working in the city, not to mention the Kallang Basin water view every morning when you open the curtains.

For 2 adults and 2 children I imagine you are looking for approx 1300sq or more. With prices ranging from $3k p/m all the way up to $6-7k p/m the choices are endless.

So if you could give a better idea of what budget you had in mind we may be able to provide something closer to the mark.

BTW you didn't mention whether you were looking to buy or rent, my assumption was renting. Buying is a whole other story.

Simei is expensive because its at a stones throw away from Changi Business Park. If you are not working at CBP you are un-necessarily paying the premium, inspite of living far of from the city.

East Coast can be a cool place to live. As what another person has mentioned above, places like The Bayshore is cool, there is another one which is called Bayshore Park (older one), note The Bayshore and Bayshore Park are different condos, although they are just next to each other.

But Simei, condos like Modena and Tropical Spring would be more ideal as you can get your groceries and other stuff at the Eastpoint shopping mall and the MRT is all just within 1-2 mins walking distance.

East Coast area is abit lacking in terms of MRT and groceries etc, there are places like Siglap Centre and Parkway Parade (one of my fav shopping malls) but they are all like in the range of ''have to take a bus'' from The Bayshore in terms of distance, and even if you live at condos right next to Siglap Centre or Parkway Parade, there are only buses and no MRT stations closeby.
