Singapore Expats

Hello,
I will be moving to Singapore in Jan 2010 with my wife and 3 month old son under the LPR scheme. While my wife and I will be taking up PR, we wish to apply for the LTVP for our son. From what I have learned, my wife and I should get a temporary employment pass between the time that we complete PR formalities and the time that we become PRs (3 months?). At what point can we apply for our son's LTVP? I ask because he will (should) be granted a 90 day visit pass on arrival. But if we're not able to apply for his LTVP within that period, will we have to re-apply (or extend) his visit pass?

You cannot apply for an LTSVP for him until you have your PR. You are right that you will be given an EP chop in your passport to allow you to begin work immediately while processing of your PR takes place. I would immediately apply for a dependent's pass based on your EP chop (I don't know if that's possible or not) but I don't think you would have a problem getting an extension on his SVP in order to facilitate the issuance of your PR and subsequent LTSVP.

Why don't you want your son to take up PR

Thanks Saint. I wanted to ask the same question but then I always get accused of being an agitater.

Guess they are going to just be some more abusers of the system that makes it rough on the rest of us.

If the son take up PR, he will be 2nd generation PR. Need to go for NS.

Well if he doesn't take up PR and remains on a LTSVP, when he finishes his studies in Singapore he will tell him he has to leave

Another set of parents who think the can beat the system when in fact it could ruin their son's future.
