Christmas present/bonus for maids?

A good beating and a spoon full of extra rice is probably the norm here.
It depends on the employer, some send them back to their home over the festive period. We have just invited her family over for xmas in Singapore
Otherwise, my view a month extra salary would be the minimum.

but yeah, extra month pay and some presents so that they can open during xmas too.

yes. ours gets an extra month's salary.
because we always end up dipping into our 'emergency' money at Christmas (usually to squeeze in a mini-break to the beach) I split it up into 3 payments and tacked it onto her Oct, Nov, Dec paydays. She didn't mind; in fact she liked having the extra cash to send a few presents back home before the December rush.

always extra money as that is what they really want. How much is up to you and what your family can give.
