Singapore Expats

I am moving to Singapore December 29th, and I'm wondering where the best area would be to live in. I am a 23 year old single female and I will be working in the Woodlands area. From what I've heard, getting around Singapore is relatively easy, so I wouldn't have to live in the Woodlands. However, I would like to be sort of near by.

I would love to live with other young female expats so I could make some new friends, and since I've never actually been to Singapore, I'm not sure which areas are ideal for people like me.

Any advice would be amazing! Thanks in advance!

Woodlands is pretty far from where the rest of people in Singapore work so there're two things to note:
1. Most people work (and want to live) in the southern part of the island. Most of the nightlife is also there (City area).
2. Accommodations would be a whole less expensive compared to similar ones in the south so you get a bigger housing unit for the same money that'll get you a much smaller one.

If you want middle ground, try looking for housing along the red line--Ang Mo Kio and surrounding areas. But if you work in Woodlands, living in Woodlands would already be a sweet deal.

About making friends, have you gotten in touch with the Anna's in your other thread? And you still haven't told us about your feelings about cooking chicken.

woodlands is a good place to stay in, but if you'll be working in the city, try scouting between tiong bahru and jurong east.

I'm debating where I want to stay right now as well...

I work in the CBD and live on River Valley near UE Square... its a nice part of SG, near a lot of things but there its pretty far from an MRT station...

The best piece of advice I'd give you is to not put yourself at the end of any of the MRT lines... and put yourself within 5 minutes walk of the station because you don't want to be walking any longer in Singapore heat...

Also most of the nightlife etc happens around Clarke Quay, Orchard and that whole area... Holland Village and Dempsey are nice places too for a more relaxed hang out over weekend with plenty of expat goodies...

There's plenty of NYE parties in Singapore... not sure if I'll be in Singa or Thailand yet... if I'm in Singapore I'll probably head out to Sentosa and Siloso beach for a NYE beach party type thing... had a blast down there this last Saturday at the School's Out party...

About New Year's Eve, parties abound all over. Fireworks will be on display by Marina but it's usually a family thing, tickets (for seating and a variety show) cost some money (without drinks!) and it will be crowded by family units--unless that's your thing. There are also parties in Clarke Quay (and surrounding areas) and you would actually see the fireworks at Marina from there. You could also join numerous parties that are bound to pop up here in the forums, er, fora.

I feel toapayoh will be better.

if I am not wrong , braddel heights also alot of expats stay there.

go to city just walk to braddel mrt

orchard within 10 mins ..raffles places just roughly 30mins

I beg to differ at least, last year I was at Clarke Quay, and I heard fireworks, but saw nothing. Tried several spots, but nothing to see.

I was there too last year with my friend. We saw the fireworks from the river--sure, it wasn't a full view but we saw the fireworks.

Woodlands is actually a nice area to live in as it is very clean and neat, and is very convenient. As the Singapore American School is also here, there is a sizable expat community here. However, the only set back is that it is not very near to the city centre in the south, but Singapore is so small.

If you would like to live in Woodlands, I would recommend Rosewood condo as it is reasonably close to Causeway Point Shopping Centre and MRT. In fact, it is the closest condominum to these amenities unless you do not mind living in a HDB with locals.

What is that supposed to mean? Surely you are not an elitist? If you are, heaven forbid, you might just find yourself living next door to one in your Condo as well when they sell their HDB flat and buy the unit next to you......

Hey, im also 23 single female....
Ill be arriving in Singapore in July!
How are you finding it?? I haev been to Singapore for a week but that is it!!
What did you do anout accomodation in the end? Im hoping to get a flat share with someone when I get there...hopefully condo if I can as I like the thought of gym & swimming - need things to keep me occupied in the evenings whilst meeting new people!!
