Hi, I stumbled onto this website two weeks ago and have been reading some v interesting posts.

I'm Singaporean & househunting for a 2nd property. Our existing property is a condo in the western part of Singapore. It is quite a long commute to work but luckily the subway is right at our door step. Still, we're interested to get another place - possibly to rent it out before we eventually move in ourselves in a few years' time.

In my condo, there're quite a few korean families. And recently I noticed my brother's place are attracting japanese families. So I'm starting to think....maybe there are natural "enclaves" to where expats live.

That will influence our decision on where to buy our second property - the expected tenants, the yield & the type of facilities/amenities etc.

Question for you :
1. What makes you decide on where to stay? (proximity to school, transport, facilities, budget)

2. If $ is not a concern, where would you like to stay?

3. (if it's not offensive to ask) what nationality are you?

4. How do you rank these places (from most to least preferred)
a. Orchard/River Valley
b. Newton/Novena
c. Holland/Farrer
d. East Coast/Katong/Siglap
e. West Coast/Harbourfront (does not incl sentosa since i can't afford it)
f. Chinatown/Alexandra/Queenstown
g. Serangoon Gardens
h. Bugis/Bencoolen/Little India

I know it's a long list....but Singapore is literally sprouting condos everywhere.

1) Close to work, I personally don’t think you can put a price on time… For example a 1 hour commute is 10 hours a week of your life lost – crazy if you ask me…
2) The exact same place I am now, East Coast area (Eastwood).
3) British.
4) Think you will struggle on this, it’s so personal, and would say most people have only lived in 1, 2, or 3 at most… So baring restaurants, and venturing out people will not be able to rank all those in order for living.

Try trimming your post into a simpler poll, or different Q 4 and you may get better responses.
