Singapore Expats

We arrived this week and have narrowed our apartment search down to a couple of options, including a Ground Floor unit at One Jervois near River Valley Road. Lovely aspect, with a natural breeze and large patio off the living area. It is near the canal and we did notice a bit of a smell around the back of the block but nothing around the front where our unit would be.

Wondering if anyone living in that area can comment on proximity to CBD, convenience for shopping, things to do in the area that don't require getting in a car?? I have a 19mth old and we love to get out and do walks each day to park etc. Have also found that getting in taxis with her without a child restraint is a complete nightmare so want to avoid that as much as possible. My husband will be working at Battery Road and from what we can tell the bus will be the most direct route.

Any advice or guidance on expat living in that area would be most welcome.

We actually just moved to 1 Jervois and do like it here.

Its a brand new development and so everything is unspoilt and brand spanking new! In terms of convenience, its really good! You have a 24h express fairprice near the Esso gas station, then the cold storage at Valley Point which is also walkable...and then great world city, which is a ten minute walk.

The bus stop is right outside and my husband commutes to CBD taking about 20-25 min, depending on the hour.
Most other buses also go directly to Orchard.

I am not aware of any parks close by, but if you go a little inward into jervois road, its very quiet and nice..they are also building a walking/running path next to the "smelly canal" so it may give it a facelift

In terms of the development itself...its slightly on the tighter side, space wise considering the price- Units facing the poolside, lack privacy but a delight for a voyeuristic

Right now tenants are using all the facilities at full throttle, so quite a bit of traffic on weekends with tennis courts, bbq'a and pool..

The fittings and fixtures are of okay quality, not top of the line (it also depends on who your owner is and how much they invested in the unit)..

Oh and some people may not like that the bld is at the edge of HBD city

Because the place is new, it will hold for about a few years, but not too confident about how competent the management is in terms of maintenance.

For now all is good, so its a green light
