Singapore Expats

Okay, so the advice I’m seeking today is whether or not it is taboo to wear white shoes in Singapore after Labor Day. The old rule in the States is that you cannot wear white shoes after Labor Day (September) and before Memorial Day (May). Basically, you can only wear them June, July and August. The celebrities have broken this rule on several occasions in the past few years and it is now questionable as far as whether or not you can get away wearing white shoes (or pants/dresses) during that time. I did a bit of Googling and found that if your country does not celebrate these holidays or you live somewhere tropical (not sure what the definition of that is…), then you are okay wearing white. I’m asking this only because I’m buying my daughter a bunch of shoes before we get to Singapore realizing our selection may be a bit larger and the prices may be slightly more reasonable in the States vs. Singapore. I looked in her closet and EVERYTHING goes with white shoes that she has from now until 18 months! Given this, I’m considering getting her a few white shoes in each size but didn’t know if the rules for no white shoes/dresses/pants applies in Singapore (and if it is white patent, does that make a difference). If you know whether this rule applies in Singapore too, please let me know. And yes, I do realize she is just a baby, but I still want her to no be a fashion victim I am trying to avoid purchasing a bunch of shoes for her and then learning that the rule applies and in that case, I’d never put the white shoes on her and will have wasted all that money. Please share with me what you have learned from your experience in Singapore. Thanks in advance!

at 1+ north of the equator, I believe we qualify for the tropics here. Especially considering there are not any "seasons" except for the Monsoon seasons but not "summer" & "winter" which is the reason for the white shoe BS which we never bothered to follow anyway when I lived in the US. Course you can blame that on me being an ole farmboy, so there you go.

Also, with the local's total general lack of style, does it matter? Make up a funny sounding name, stick the label on the 'outside' of the apparel and voila, sell it to them for 1000x what it's worth. They will break down glass doors to get to it before somebody else does.
