Singapore Expats

i would like to start taking some cooking classes - it doesnt matter what style - but the only ones i can find are during the day and at the moment i work casually and so cant predict if i will be available to take a class that i have paid for

so does anyone know of any cooking classes that are held after working hours? in fact any kind of class to keep me occupied and off the couch in the evenings?

I was given a book recently called cooking for expats, this is basically like a practical cooking class, because it provides recipes that teach you alot about cooking, without having to go thru all of the theory.
The nice thing about it is that it is written in simple english, with lots of pictures, so even my kids can do the recipes with a little help, they really like the cakees ones.
If you dont have the time to attend a class this is a good way to learn

You should try out very personal cooking classes by Cookery Magic. The classes arer taught by a very passionate foodie Ruqxana. Their website is www.cookerymagic.com.

I'm sure you've seen Mrs Lee's cookbook in the shops - her granddaughter Shermay Lee runs a cookery school above Original Sin in Holland Village. They do Sat & Sun afternoon classes & demonstrations. S$50 a time, if I remember correctly, so not wonderfully cheap.

Mostly peranakan/nonya cooking, I believe, but she's just been launching Mrs Lee's Vol. 2, so recently they've just been doing the occasional Italian demo. Went to one and it was v. good - wonderful prawn bisque.

I think they'll start again with the peranakan cooking in Jan.
