Singapore Expats

Hi,
I need some help here on our PR application. We are Malaysian and my spouse is on EP (24 months) from 1/1/2009 with a company in Spore and seconded to Vietnam a month later with the same company but spending less than 183 days in Singapore. Actually is 3 weeks Vietnam and 1 week Spore.
All of us (2 schooling children and myself) are in Singapore holding DP and my two children are in mainstream school (one in primary 6 & one in secondary 2). As my biz is mainly in M'sia, I travel back to M'sia every month for about 7 - 10 days and in Spore my main core biz is via internet, thus I do not register any biz at the moment.
We have applied for PR since July 2009 but we have yet to receive any official reply on our status of application. I have written to them since the 3rd month of application and their reply is always " pending and the process takes between 3-6 months" which I duly accepted.
Since early this year, I have written 2 emails to them actually on 22/1 and 28/1 but I have yet to receive any reply and at this moment we are still waiting.
My questions are, do I need to call them or visit the office to get the answer? and why does it has to be more than 6 months?
Anyone who has input, please help and all your help is highly appreciated.

Obviously you haven't bother to do a search of the threads on this board have you. Had you had the initiative, you would have found that sometimes it takes takes the better part of a year (I think the last case mentioned about a week ago was better than 8 months - they got it). The government is tightening up on PR applications and rejecting more and more as the local populaton continue to biatch about too many PR's (there are over 500,000 of them now in a population of 4.5 million. That's big. So, they might be really checking out how many family members that they could be saddled with if you were given PR. Too many, and it might upset the racial balances, so they are being very careful.

You applied for PR after only being in Singapore for 6 months so wouldn't be surprised if you got the standard letter saying apply again in 2 years. Could even be waiting for your tax returns to be submitted. Not sure why you mentioned that your spouse works abroad and spend less than 183 days in Singapore? Intend to avoid paying income tax here?

Tq for your feedback. The reason we apply after 6 months was mainly because we feel (after staying here since Jan 2009) Singapore suit us as family and we are actually able to 'settle down' much better and easier than we thought. Secondly, both our children actually love their school and they like Singapore and adapts real well.
As for the income tax issue, my spouse company covers d taxation skit us not the issue. The reason why I states the 183 days because I am afraid that could be (maybe) the reason why the PR application takes so long. In fact we did receive the income tax notice but was settled by my spouse company. Hope u could understand why I written d 183 days down. Anyway tq fir d feedback.

Don't worry too much about it, it really doesn't matter, what matters is that you are both working and surviving in your own fields of business, or employment, take it all with a pinch of salt and throw it over your shoulder for luck

All the hype in the newspapers appear to say, they haven't a clue what they are doing, those that shout loudest get heard, although it's all puff! I could think of better places i would rather be, even though i like Singapore. The weather plays havoc with my marbles and my jackfruit is suffering too all18 inches of it!

The good news arrives yesterday, we have got the letter from ICA, approving our PR applications.
Now, I can breath a sigh of relief.
