I am new and am not sure whether this is the right place to post this question.

If someone has already gotten his Australia pr permit, can he still migrate to Australia if he is declared bankrupt after that?

While failing to declare this is probably illegal, what they don't know can't hurt them. (Might bite you on the ass big time if they ever find out, though.)

If you have been made bankrupt recently the big problem you would have is paying for your new life in Australia. There usually is a rule about not being able to claim on government welfare for the first two years stay of your family in Aus. So you need to support your family whilst you are looking for a job.

Otherwise the only times it may come up are on forms, such as employment applications, bank accounts, home loans, credit cards, where they ask if you have ever been bankrupt.

Finally there is a chance if you do get a job in Australia, that someone whom you owe money to, could ask for you to pay them some of the money back. Australia has laws about undischarged bankrupts, you can search on these. There are conditions like being able to only have a car valued at up to $5000, you can keep your tools of trade to let you earn an income, but pretty much any other asset or personal effect of value can be sold up to repay debts. Likewise the courts can hear a claim that would have a certain amount taken out of your pay and given to your creditors.

It is worth doing your research. Australian govt agencies will have information about this up on their websites so just search.

wcs, I'm sure everything you say is perfectly true... but tell me, how will any Australian company ever find out that you've been declared bankrupt in Singapore?

The bigger issue will the Singapore side of things, since AFAIK a Singaporean bankrupt is not allowed to travel outside the country without the permission of the OA. (This is also how the Sing gov't keeps tabs on pesky opposition politicians.)

Fair point. I was ideallistic enough, er naive enough, to think he would answer the questions honestly when asked on an employment form or loan application. Cause otherwise he is perjuring himself!

Then again, some cultures like to encourage citizens to dob-in others who seem to have slipped through the net! You'd be unlucky, but it does happen!

The act and the OA govern the bankrupt literally when he is declared as one
