quick CNY etiquette advice PLS!

Family invited to CNY drinks gathering at home of gov't official Sunday: need suggestion of appropriate nontrite (think of all those oranges going bad at the same time!) contribution to the event. All best, thanks for your help

It worked out fine. We baked some little muffin-top-sized chocolate souffles (easy on the second attempt) and put 'em in one of those hexagonal brocade folding boxes. And I walked over to the nursery to see what looked good, came away with a matched pair of cute little red pineapples wrapped in gold paper. The girls at the sales counter thought the pineapples were a good laugh, but they couldn't tell me why. Our hostess was fine with it all, so no great faux pas apparent.
