Any expats who were previously in HK?

It seems like there are quite a few expats that have lived and worked in both Hong Kong and Singapore. What are your feelings about the pros and cons. What are the salaries/cost of living/lifestyle differences and (dare I ask) which did/do you prefer?

Hmm? I would put myself somewhere between the 2. Young, free (no real ties) and married, babies to follow...

HK before
SG for the last 7 months...
Married, a toddler...
In average apart from housing, HK is slightly cheaper than SG... well it also depends on what's your lifestyle to find out how cheaper or not.
Loved HK...
But over the years... pollution was really taking it's toll on all of us...
So even tough we miss some aspects of HK... we wouldn't go back... air quality killed it for us in the end.

HK and SG are quite similar though SG is still "slower" in general and less frantic for sure.
If you take away accomodation and cars, then HK is cheaper though has got more expensive since i left but it is cheaper than SG for most things. Even though i lived out in Sai Kung before where the air was great and there was plenty space I would say that for a family SG might even just edge that only for convenience.

Oh, is the housing the SG more expensive than HK? HK's housing is already very hight!
I am excited and eager to know the lifestyle in SG!

If I didn't have children my number one choice to live would be Hong Kong. Post-children - Singapore.

Have you tried pushing a pram in Central mid-day? Try and find a feeding/mums room in Wanchai?

We had a choice to move to either HK or Singapore. At the time the kids were 1,2 & almost 4. After a week touring Hong Kong I knew Singapore would be much easier (for exactly the same reasons QRM described). HKIS was also notoriously difficult to get into, SAS was more a sure thing. Without kids? I'd love to live in Hong for a while...

we moved from hong kong this past sept and i miss it A LOT. like many have said though, singapore is definitely a healthier place to raise children b/c of the pollution and to even just getting around with a pram is easier. singapore is slow, relaxing and feels like you are in the suburbs even when you are in the city central. hong kong is dirtier, faster and has this great energy to it. it also depends where you are originally from. we are from new york, so we love the big city and its vibe. i would love to go back to hong kong!

Is it true that HK got rid of taxes on wines?
