Hi,

The maximum unemployment period for the PEP pass is 6 months.

Does this 6 month period start from the time I receive my In Principal approval or does it start from the time I collect my pass from MOM upon arrival in Singapore?

From the time you collect your pass. Before that it's not been issued yet.

Does that mean that if I collect my pass 5 months after I get my In-principle approval I will get an additional 6 months to find a job upon collection.

Technically, yes.

What type of visa are you on at the moment, if any?

When you receive the In-principle approval letter, you are given a period of time to complete the formalities in order for MOM to issue your PEP card. To be more specific, the 6 months shall count from the pass issuance date stated on your PEP card.

You are given 6 months to complete the formalities. Once formalities are completed, you "could" theoretically be unemployed for 6 months before losing the PEP permanently. Which is what I said in the first reply.

In theory, yes. Realistically, If you are already here for 4 months, your passport is going to reflect that, so....

What MOM will do? Anybody's guess. But I sure as hell wouldn't want to gamble on it, not with the way they are finding all and any ways to justify not allowing passes. Conceivably, they might even cancel your PEP - don't forget, it's their marbles and their playground.

thanks for your reply sms, it is a risky operation.

My worry is the S$30.000 boundary, I do not fully get it.

For example, if I collect my PEP right away and find a job after for example 4 months, it pays S$3000.

This will pay off S$36.000 per year, enough for the PEP.

BUT, now it is only 8 * S$3000, which is below the S$30.000. I will loose my PEP.

This fear brought me to the Johor escape route,

I don't want to sound patronizing but think about what you just wrote.

Let's assume I got my PEP on the 31 of August and got a job paying $7000/mo the next day and worked the rest of the year. Do you think I would lose my PEP? I earned $28,000 that year but I only had the PEP for 4 months and didn't make $30,000.

Surely you don't think the MOM is that stupid do you? If you do, you are coming to the wrong country. Have you ever heard of pro-rated requirements? By your thought processes, somebody who got their PEP on the first of December would have to go to work the next day and earn $30,000 for the month of December alone.

The PEP calender years starts when you collect it the pass, not when you find a job, right?

So in my example, I was jobless for 4 months in my first calender year, so I have 8 months left to make the S$30.000

From what I understand from your example is that the calender year starts from the moment you secure a job, where the 6 months is not a part of it, it is just the maximum time to be jobless.

correct me if I am wrong.
