Hi Everyone! Imagine my joy when I came across this website - http://playgroup.ning.com

Finally someone has come up with the idea of locating a playgroup near your area through social networking (finding it on forums is so tough!).

I think its quite a new service but I just joined as a member and am looking for other mommies/daddies to have playgroups in the East with. Please join so we can have easy discussions!

Are you sure it's not your new site and you are shilling it here? I mean, you are posting with two identities there already. Bit suspect if you ask me. :-|

meetup.com has been around for a long time and if you put in "Playgroup" there are a lot.

The same group of people running the webpage abpove did contact me before in response to my earlier postings looking for a playgroup. They made the impression that everything is volunteer-based and by like-minded parents. We arranged an initial group meeting, which I happily agreed to host at my place. At the last minute there came a message "... and by the way, it costs S$30 per weekly session, payable a month in advance".
I replied that I am surprized about this and I see no reason to host a commercial venture (for somebody else's profit) in my living room. I never heard from them again.
So be careful when dealing with the organisers of that page!

My daughter and me are now member of two (really free and informal) playgroups. Please feel free to PM me if you are interested in those. It's great fun!

I am also wondering why an Indian lady has to masquerade as a Caucasian with the nick 'Angelina Smith'? Definitely want to stay away from anything she offers I should think. It would seem last Sept she was plugging a different play group as well. I'd be very careful.

Shocking! How can a moderator give out personal info like that?! Who cares if the lady is Indian or Caucasian? Her username can be anything she wants it to be. That comment is bordering on racism from where I come from. That's why its called a úsername! Very unprofessional on Singapore Expats part. Now I am questioning the integrity of THIS forum and its 'moderators''. Please remove me from this network IMMEDIATELY. Seems like members have no privacy here.

Advertisers and people soliciting business for their own gain are not welcome nor do they deserve to be accorded the privacy that is accorded to our regular members. We try our best to protect our regular members here from unscrupulous posters who would deceive them for personal gain. I feel sad that you would support those who would deceive our members for personal gain. You might want to read the stickies regarding our policies for advertising & soliciting here. Franky, I didn't give out any personal information at all so you might want to pull your head back in. A nick is anonymous isn't it, unless somebody puts a real name to it.

yes there are two very active Meetup groups and they are FREE for anyone expat or local to join, there is also New Mothers Support Group which charges a membership to join but it comes with different benefits and they are a non for profit organization.

Kimora,

Just for the record, not for profit organizations are not allowed to advertise here either "unless they are gazetted by the Singapore Government" and then only for a special event and even then they need to get approval from us or admin to post it.
