PLEASE HELP!My son's passport expired, stranded in Singapore

Hi Everyone, I am new here, desperate for answers. My son is oz citizen and after my divorce, his spr was cancelled bcos my ex (he's spr and me a singaporean) left and did not renew. my son's 5yr passport expired, he refused to co-sign for me. I re-married living happily with my hubby, moved to USA, my son managed to get a travel document, come to singapore, his student pass expiring, the US travel document (like exit permit is not renewable) and his oz passport expired... oz high comm cannot change his new family name in the passport, my ex not reachable at all, with no passport, student pass expiring..I feel stranded... i am totally frustrated and confused what to do.... i want to apply Singapore citizenship for my son but no passport, cannot apply right? what should i do?? gosh, what a mess! please help. I really really appreciate

Your post is too confusing to give any meaningful answer at all.
Please clarify:
- Where is your son now and where has he been in the past?
- Which nationality and which visa does he currently have?
- Which nationalities do you and his father have?
- Where was your son born?
All this information is needed to understand your current situation and decide what to do next. Panic is not needed and just complicates things.

Your son has your ex husbands name, so renew his passport in that name, as long as you have the documentation of custody for your son, it shouldn't be a problem. Talk to your local MP for help

Hi, I'm not a consular official but your son is still an Australian citizen - and the Consulate/High Comm cannot refuse assistance to a citizen.
Best bet is to follow what's on your son's birth cert (hope you have that ) until that information changes, he should get the necessary travel documents.

A: I guess your son has a SPR or dependent pass by virtue of your ex-husband working in SG b4. Yes ?

Now the solution. Since you are Sger by birth or descent, go to 7th Floor ICA Kallang. Apply on the spot for his BC by Singapore Descent.
Bring your previous marriage cert, your current marriage cert, Income earned overseas and tax return from overseas IRA or IRD here, your son, expired OZ passport, student pass.
In 7 days you will get son's BC where you can apply for SG Passport if you wish to let him sutdy here. Please remember about his NS liabilities if you decided to leave SG and the SG passport is just a tool for you to return to US. There are consequences that you have to be aware. Read the thread compiled by SMS , Kraik. Good STUFF
Remember BC first then passport.
Alternatively go OZ COnsulate, you should be able to get OZ passport as he was born in OZ. please bring OZ BC.
Once you get OZ passport you can always go to ICA 7th Floor again to stamp RIGHT OF ENTRY on his OZ passport. This way you do not have to apply for SG passport. AND YOU CAN GO TO US OR STUDY here in full subsidy as you already got SG BC for your son

Incorrect. A minor needs two parents to co-sign if they are the legal guardian and has divorced.
MP will not do much. She has a son, SG Gahmen values this more than a Ferrari

Is that just an Australian rule? It doesn't apply everywhere. Definitely not in New Zealand anyway.
It sounds like the OP is wanting to change her son's name and this, I'd imagine, is where the problem is. You cannot do that without the consent of the other parent. I can't see why she can't just take her child's passport to the embassy, with his birth certificate and renew it. She must have her ex-husband's details, so can give this to the embassy. The kid is a citizen of the country, even if the mother is not.
Frankly, if you live overseas and do not make sure your kid has a valid travel document at all times, you need a kick up the butt. Really, stupidly irresponsible.

I know it used to be like that, but even now, the US requires both parents to apply for a US Passport for a dual citizen child. The thought process is that there have been too many children kidnapped when one parent left Singapore or wherever, with a valid passport for the kid that the other parent wasn't even aware of. So now they want both parents approval. Makes good sense if you think about it.
From the US Embassy's site:
STEPS TO SUBMITTING A PASSPORT APPLICATION FOR A MINOR UNDER AGE 16:
Read and understand Steps 1 - 7 before leaving this page.
STEP 1: Complete and Submit Form DS-11: Application For A U.S. Passport
Complete Form DS-11: Application for a U.S. Passport. To submit Form DS-11, the minor:
* Must apply in person with both parents/guardian(s)
* Must provide the additional documentation required by Form DS-11 (See Steps 2-7)
* Must not sign the application until instructed to do so by the Acceptance Agent
* Must provide your SSN in accordance with 26 U.S.C. 6039E

I agree it makes sense. I know it definitely doesn't happen in New Zealand though, as my kids got new passports last year and their father did not sign, or even see, a single paper through any of it.
Regardless, these things have an expiry date and when living overseas, parents need to be mindful of that - Singapore would not take kindly to people being here without a valid travel document, and I think the passes would even be cancelled at that point (not sure about that bit). It seems to me that if the parents are not in regular contact it would be something to think about long before this kind of thing happened...
