i am interested in metaphysics or so called feng shui.

My first time was at balestier road and it took me by surprise that it is actually pretty accurate.

Have you guys tried it before?

Is it accurate?

I haven't tried feng shui but did try some Indian astrology stuff and tarot. Sometimes it creeps me out when a stranger tells you things that are so close to the truth! Its interesting but I'm always at conflict with myself because if the future is predestined, then some how our individual ability to make decisions, our "will" become insignificant. Of course most of our choices are half chance but yet...

Yes, but the laws of physics certainly poses a lot of limitations. Doing cold reading however never fails to amaze a large enough crowd.

Seriously, to tell your fortune is, as intellectualmuse suggested, an indicator that your life is predestined; further, that some few individuals get to see your predestined life, whereas you do not.

Poppycock! It sounds 'accurate' because you have been given generalities that could apply to many, and have automatically associated that generality with something specific in your mind.

You are 'on the wave' of life or not... you find a spiritual connection that gives you life's purpose... or not. And, your life is not predestined at all... you have the complete free will to be connected or not... to live the larger life or the smaller.

It may well be said that your life's purpose or mission lies beyond you... that it is the doing of God/Spirit/Yahweh... and that still does not imply predestination... only that you... and I... are a part of something much larger.

I think there are people who have certain "feelings" or whatever you might call them about certain aspects of the future, probably more on an individual basis (as in not a view as to where the world is heading) and not to do with random stuff like lottery numbers (but quite possibly medical matters, etc.).

Just my gut feeling.

these people who seem psychic usually just use deductive reasoning and "detective" skills. experts of their fields usually can predict to an extent what may happen in the future--that's how we get forecasts (fashion, economy, technology, etc).

those that "divine" undisclosed information from people just observe real closely and put one and one together to get three (for very large values of one). add in some theatrics and you may call it mentalism. one specific technique is cold reading.

examples from fiction include psych, the mentalist, house md, sherlock holmes...heck, the freakin' batman.

that hack john edward even had a tv show wherein he uses cold reading to pass himself off as a medium.

give anyone enough time to train and practice and they could pass themselves as psychic.

However from the master i went, i heard that metaphysics is regarding the elements of the earth kind of thing. Not very sure about it though.

Wow! And I always thought metaphysics was a philosophy...basically to do with answering questions about existence and the nature of reality and other abstract stuff. Elements of earth sounds like a "material" concept so not sure if it would qualify as "metaphysical"!! But then again I'm not a "master"

and no, metaphysics is a branch of philosophy dealing with principles of reality beyond the realm of science. key word here is reality. so unless that master is ready to discuss with you the purpose of meaning or the answer to who you are and your place in the cosmos, he has his terminologies all mixed up. i may not be a philosopher but at least i know enough formal philosophy to know what metaphysics is. or what it isn't.

don't dwell on what fortune tellers or diviners tell you. it's good for few laughs but don't let it rule your life. centuries of thinkers, monks, philosophers, researchers, theoretical AND experimental scientists dedicated their lives so that we will have a better understanding of the world. THINK. you have one of the most powerful computers in the natural world. USE IT.

don't make me throw you into one of the many black holes the large hadron collider can create.

Personally, from my standpoint, you can take what they said at face value, nothing more nothing less. If you keep on coming back for more be it, in astrology, geomancy, tarot, crystall ball gazing whatever, these things will ruin your life. You will be so cautious on whatever you do in life even up till when you can step out of your house.
I have afew friends who are so into it, they spends thousands of dollars on renovating their houses according to what their Masters said even until the number of Koi Fish to be kept and its colour too. !!
They can say they are doing well in life because they adhere to all these guideline which is a yes and a no. Business wise yes but family and social life is a wreck with too much emphasis on these things
Life is a challenge with up and downs, just do it !!

people take the path of least resistance. they don't want to think for themselves; they don't want to believe proven practices that take some work but are known to improve lives. people want shortcuts, magic tricks to make their lives better. feng shui was initially based on common sense and simple scientific principles until somebody had the bright idea to add all the hocus-pocus. now, gullible people can't tell which ideas make sense anymore.

Though it all sounds like poppy cock, I must admit that I did go through a phase of telepathy for a number of years, it was fun at parties, because they all wanted the skill demonstrated, where one person would leave the room and draw a simple picture, and I would have to describe the picture. very often close enough that they believed it could be done. For example I can recall the person drawing the sun and I described a round centre with spokes around it, that's what i could see, no colour but just flash images and i could spot one person I had a crush on outside after midnight at a 24hr petrol station.
Me and a mate walked there to find her shopping, some things are just unexplainable, but I'm sure its to do with being able to pick up her wavelength.

I have had these tendencies and interest for a good 35 years of my life, including palm reading, astrology and communicating with the underworld, which is really quite spooky and not to be played with unless you understand the dangers.

My theory is that energy is around us all the time, we don't see it but we radiate it, one can feel the energy of people, just like the good vibes and bad vibes you all pick up, its not gut feeling its disturbance of energy. And many schizophrenics transmit this disturbance through looks and stares, they are on another planet, in touch with god and the unknown and are unable to handle it.

Shamanism is another practise, though some never return to normal, be aware that the devil is waiting to step in, that's why the bible is against any form of meddling

Astrology is very basic and most characters fit their sign, depending on time of birth depends were the influence of the planets where at the time of birth.

The moon for example is so powerful that it doesn't only effect the sea, but also women's menstruation and peoples mood.

The word lunatic is also related to the power of the moon having bad influence over certain characters.

I find Astrology very handy by silently using it myself, to assert another ones behaviour pattern, though many variables need to come in play to be good at it.

The most interesting aspect of all, is the USA military and UK don't believe its poppy cock, neither do I.

Though there are also dangers of playing around with the unknown and the bible forbids it, some say its the devils work, because it's not really understood... Though many things we see today are of a supernatural human being able to break things with their head or even bend frying pans like rolling paper.

Science can explain all these super human challenges of practise makes perfect and the bones of our body, with training adapt to super powerful strength.

The brain is more difficult to fathom out, and the connection to a higher power is by far unbelievable, much more than the magicians of today that play tricks, there are genuine people with genuine talents, and around a few thousand that genuinely want the same power but never make the grade.

The Shaolin monks have individuals that will bend steel bars using their adams apple to push against the steel, while 4 large individuals couldn't for the life of them bend it. My thoughts are to keep an open mind, I have no idea why i cannot do telepathy today, when i could years ago, though i am inclined to admit I was emotionally involved with the power.

Do i believe, yes I believe its all possible but proving it is something else. Feng shui also works well, but so does a positive mind and commonsense.

Just to be clear, Uri Geller is a fraud.

Science does not claim it can explain everything. It does claim that there's a method to finding out to explain something. Unfortunately, the methods may or may not be available immediately. Hence, science must march on.

Astrology, feng shui...these most probably started out as a series of observations from which certain conclusions were drawn out. Causalities were established and they became sound principles. But of course, as knowledge builds up, you learn new things. Those things you learn as right, you build on them and expound on the knowledge further. Those you learn as wrong, you discard--use the reason why it was wrong so you won't make the same mistake again. But probably somewhere along the way, somebody decided to add some fantastic elements that don't make sense but seem cool. Also, someone probably was too arrogant to even have his 'cool principle' be tested for truth and several generations later, people end up with superstition.

...Have I mentioned that Uri Geller is a fraud?
