Singapore Expats

Dear All,

I am a Dependant Pass holder and would like to open a personal bank account. So far, I notice that if you’re on a dependant’s pass, banks will only allow you a joint account with your spouse. Do you have some exception in mind? I mean would you know some banks in Singapore which, as an exception, allow a Dependant Pass holder to have his own bank (vs. joint account with spouse). I did hv my own acct when I was in DP. That was way back in 2004. I had my a/c with POSB. I 'm not sure if all the rules & stuff are still the same. But when I got married & moved to SG, If am not wrong I think my Spouse EP ID was jus enough to open an a/c but I think their was some min amt which we had to maintain. Am not sure whether it was 100 or 500sgd thou I think u can open .....try ur luck ....

My wife had no problem to open up personal bank accounts with DBS and UOB back in 2009.

I am here on a DP, and opened my own checking acct at Standard Chartered with no hassles. Just took my passport and DP card. I am working with a LOC, but I didn't even need to bring that with me - just gave them the company's name and contact info.

I did not see any problem to write something when I had something to say. Sorry if I missed a forum rule about posting to very old forum items, i will be careful about this.

I really do not understand what the problem is with my location. I am in a 1 year long project here in my homeland and will be back in February, should I be present in Singapore to post here ?

You join Dec 20. You make 4 posts, 2 to old threads. You have your blog featured in your sig line. Hard to tell if you want to be a member of this community or you are just posting to flog your blog for SEO purposes. You wouldn't be the first.

I see. You are right. It looks definitely the second.

I prefer warming up to the community rather than SEO so it will be better to keep my blog out for a while.
