We are a British family relocating to Singapore from Germany in July 2010 with children aged 16, 12 and 9. We have no definite schooling plan yet! Advice welcome on whether to school internationally or local Singaporean school. Help!

Sally, please use the search function just below the "Profile" link at the upper right of this page to do some research on the various threads here. There are many threads that already address exactly what you are asking.

Dear Sally

There are some very very good Singaporean schools with excellent reputation and very high standards. However it really depends what you guys intend to do in few years time. If your goal is to move back to UK, then in that case you must be prepared that the child might be repeating one year over there...and that is never pleasant to do for children hence most expats are chosing to send the children to the schools of their "origin".

if you are planning to move back to UK then I would highly advice Tanglin Trust. They have very friendly staff, good school grounds etc. If you are not sure where you are going to live then another option is UWCSEA, however this school is much bigger than Tanglin and it is more competitive to get in.
German school here is also very good, and they run classes in english as well as in german - so if your children are already fluent in german might be a good idea to try that too?

the best thing to do after all is to visit the schools and see what you are most comfortable with.... I think you will find something suitable that will work for you guys so try not to stress about it too much.

best of luck - and welcome to singapore

Like SMS said, there are so many threads on this it's unbelievable. If you did a Google search for schools in the area you are going to live that would be a good place to start - eg Schools on the East Coast.

I hope your husband is going to be on a good package as sending one child to school here is not cheap never mind 3!
