Singapore Expats

Seeking advice on a neighborhood/area that fits. I'm 34, single, male. Social life is a priority, want to chill with lots of other expats, close to pubs, shows etc would be a big bonus.
Work is in Woodlands area, MRT commute under 30min would be nice. No car.
housing budget in the $5-7k/month range.

it's a totally blind life-change, never been to Sg, never lived in a big city. Any advice is appreciated. Heard Holland is expat central. Looking for advice on other options too. East coast is prob too far from work (?)

Why don't you try make it less blind by reading some recent threads or using search function of this forum?

if you working in woodland, then JB would be perfect for you. full of expats and lots of social life.

Oh no JB please especially if you work in Woodlands... it may just be 'so near yet so far' due to the immigration checkpoints and crowd.

As for expat community in Johor, they are probably at Ledang side (Tuas checkpoint), but I guess they are mostly families.

More personalized advice? We don't even know you. And every posts made here is by a real live person and is their personal opinion. How personal do you want? Hand delivered to your doorstep?

JB? Do note the security and safey there.I believe you heard and read many news of robbery , rape ect crimes there.

Holland Village is a good option... Though not very MRT accessible, probably your best bet for what you described.

what you mean it is not very MRT accessible? you want the MRT next to your bedroom? buona vista MRT is just a stone throw walk from holland village.

Hi dizzious6834, not sure I have the right experience to advise you but we've just found a place in the Holland Village area (6th Avenue). I'm still in Sydney but my instruction to my partner was that we needed to be in disctrict 10, close to expats, a good social life etc. We have a few friends in the area and they all love it. With cabs so well priced it was easy to get around to the city, Orchard, Dempsey etc where there's cool places to go.

I went up for a visit this past weekend and think it's a great option but I do have a partner (no kids though). A good friend has just returned to Sydney after a year there and he is in his late 20s and single. He lived on Marina Bay and said it suited him really well but he was working in the area. Raffles Quay i think it was...

I also met some people who lived near Club Street, so again it's much closer to city but the bars / restaurants are great. Screening Room especially is a must to visit. This could be a good option for you as a single 34 yr old.

Anyway, this is purely my opinion based on limited experience but hope it helps.

Hi, if you work in Woodlands without a car, you should try to find a place along the red MRT line (north-south). Taking a cab from a place like Holland to Woodlands every day will be too expensive. Places close to MRT stations between Dhoby Ghaut and Novena, or City Hall would be the central ones.
