Singapore Expats

Hi all!

Me and buddy planning a June trip to Austin Texas. We have checked and collected lots of info from the internet but we want more more more...! So it'll be great if we can have recommendations about the local food, accommodations and entertainment from Austinites and Texans and y'all whose been there.

Our type of fun? Music, food, and we're looking to go for something outdoorsy in Lake Travis. We found there's a good place for cliff jumping there. We got hooked on cliff jumping ever since we started in Phi Phi, and then Ariel's Point in Boracay and now we're looking to go further from here. Frankly, we looked to Austin simply cos of Lake Travis.

We plan to be there for 2 weeks revolving around the Great Austin Beer Festival.

Anyways, if there are other places in Texas to go to, tell us about it. Thanks!

Former Austinite/Houstonian/Texan here. Went back to Austin this past New Years.

Depending on if there is a drought or not, Travis may be too low for cliff diving. That being said, it's still a great time to rent a boat and make it out to devil's cove.

Also depending on the time of year you can watch the bats fly from under the bridge on Congress street or Lamar (always forget).

Main attraction in Austin is 6th street. Tons of bars, live music, etc. West 6th has more of the fancy bars. Stubb's bbq is an icon, lots of concerts there, food is OK.

Salt lick (bbq)
County line (bbq)
El Chile (tex-mex / interior style mexican food)
Chuy's (awesome tex-mex)
Hula-hut (started by Chuy's, located on lake Austin)
Trudy's (mexican martini's will melt your face off)
Kerbey lane ( This and Trudy's are Austin icons)
Fonda San Miguel (Really really fancy mexican)
Uchi (One of the best sushi restaurants in the State/region)

If you want to get out of ATX, drive west and go to Fredericksburg. Lots of wineries and a good way to kill a day. Enchanted Rock is close by.

For Cajun, add to that

Gumbos
Sambets - little hole in the wall
Allogator Gril

Add also Rudy's to the bbq list. Their "moist" brisket is to die for.

or Chinese - Susy's

And you must try "Freebirds" for humongous burritos - the best.
