Hi all

Hope that someone in this forum can help me on this. I'm getting married to a Scotsman soon and I'm planning to have a bagpiper for my wedding ceremony.

Does anyone here know of a good and reputed company with bagpipers for weddings? The second question is whether anyone here knows where we can rent or buy an "authentic" Scottish tartan? I'm putting quotation marks here as my hubby-to-be is quite fussy and he does not want to wear one of those touristy kinds.

Congrats on the up-coming wedding. I have Scottish family so know how important the correct tartan is. You need to remember that each family name has a differnt tartan (different colours and patterns) you should be able to check online which belongs to your partners family. I'd don't you'd get the exact tartan here. Even in England it is hard to come by all the family tartans. I expect best bet is order online from Scotland and have delivered.

As for bagpipes I'm afraid I have no idea but wouldn't of thought too many people here could play it is a tricky instrument and sounds awful if played badly!

For a Bagpiper, best would be to contact the St. Andrews Society for a lead, if there is no member of them preparing a post here.

Secondly, with regards the kilt, I would say if you plan to buy one then get it from Scotland and have it sent over, or hand carried by the Groom's parents/family that might be coming for the wedding.

The whole package of kilt, jacket, sporan, shirt/tie etc. is expensive so the saving of 17% VAT for shipping to Singapore is great in combination of the knowledge it's from home.

dont forget the sgian dubh. i had one with my kilt.

That's actually one you have to be more careful about...... laws regarding concealed weapons etc.

Okay, so a lot of countries have no idea but depending on where travels take you it is better to be prepared.

This is why many now are just the handle without blade.

My fiance has just placed an online order with a Scottish website for his kilt. His family does not belong to any specific clan and the closest to his name is the Gordon clan.

I also found a group of Singaporeans who are passionate about the bagpipe and might be using them for the wedding. But first of all, we need to know how they sound like! My fiance wants them to play the "Highland Cathedral". Apparently it's a very well-known song.

This is so exciting to be able to see my fiance in a traditional kilt. They do make men look so sexy!!

Well, he has already lost his Scottish accent after having lived in London for a decade so I guess he is more English than Scottish .....

I usually have to try very hard to get him to put on the Scottish accent ....

Do they really go commando underneath? I sure hope that it is not windy on the day of the wedding ....(our wedding is in a garden ....)

I was searching for something else when i found this thread from long ago. I never replied then, but i will now, try searching without the BUM!
